July 25 is dollar hotdog night and July 26th has promotions for kids. You can wander around on the left field home run porch for the cost of an upper outfield reserve ($7)

Same question for me. I might be able to go to Cleveland for the 28th through 30th weekend series with the Mariners. Can anybody recommend some cheap hotels within walking distace of Jacobs Field? Thanks!

I am going to try to sit along the first base side toward the outfield so I can watch Ichiro play.

I've been there once before and they are all good seats, probably. If the seats I had last time gave a good view, then I doubt there's a bad view in the whole stadium! ;)

Can you still stand behind the Mezzanine? I always thought a good deal was the $6 ticket and then stand back there.

I prefer a bleacher seat in the middle of the section, because you will have less people walking past you during an AB.

If you will have a car there, you would probably be better off staying at one of the hotels in Independence. They are a short freeway ride from Jacobs Field. In my opinion, they would be nicer to stay at than the Airport hotels, but you might be able to ride the rapid from the airport to Tower City and walk through the concourse to get to Jacobs Field.

I think there may be a Holiday Inn downtown now, though. That would be withing walking distance of Jacobs Field. The last time I was in Cleveland, I thought I saw the Holiday Inn by the Society Tower.

:DThe Holiday Inn Express (629 Euclid Ave) is probably the most reasonable downtown hotel. Scratch & win cards and fireworks on the 28th, Hall of Fame card set on the 29th, kids promo on the 30th

I never cared about being high up. I thought the home run porch was only good if you were right up against the railing. It was usually too congested there for me, also.

If it's not crowded or if you're tall like me it's not bad. And if you're back a little you can run after home runs or long fouls :D

I'm short, so that I can have trouble seeing in the field boxes. My height is designed for either stadium seating or the upper deck.

I haven't been to Jacobs Field in over three years, and truthfully, I remember very few games there where the home run porch wasn't crowded.

I haven't been to Jacobs Field in over three years, and truthfully, I remember very few games there where the home run porch wasn't crowded. The entire porch was literally shoulder-to-shoulder for the 1997 Home Run Derby, but strangely there were very few behind the very front in the 97 All-Star game. That's when I was sure I had Javy Lopez's HR . . . until the foul pole had other ideas :grouchy :grouchy

The Radisson Right outside the Gateway, I believe it is on Prospect, is a great location. Walk across the street to the park, and you're right next to the Winking Lizard.

I am going to be in Cleveland this weekend, and so am going to Saturday night's M's-Tribe game (yahoo! :D ). My questions is, how safe is the neighborhood around the Jake late at night? My hotel is about a half-mile away from the stadium I think. Does anyone ever get mugged around there? Can I walk back after the game or do you think I should take a cab?

Thanks everybody!

Thanks everybody!I've walked around that area many times after games. My understanding is that it's fairly safe as long as you don't go WAY out east, and if you're only a half mile, I think you'd be okay.

Independence is where I usually wind up when I'm in Cleveland. The Holiday Inn is pretty decent, as well. And, of course, you're right by a Winking Lizard.
Like RMB, as well, I can say the area around the Jake is not too bad. I actually like the trek between Jacobs Field and the Browns stadium, through the arcade. That walk pretty much ends around Jacobs Field.

A couple miles, maybe less. You're also not that far from the Flats if you're by the Jake.

The Great Lakes Brewery is in Ohio City, just over the Lorain Carnegie Bridge from Jacobs Field. Get a cab to go there. Or the bus during the day.

I agree that the half mile radius of Javobs Field is safe to walk in at night (times have really changed down there), but I would recommend to any out of towner not to walk any farther east than the Cleveland State campus which in on East 22nd St.

If you go to the Flats, you can visit the spot where CC Sabathia was mugged of some his hard earned bling.

I've never been to the downtown Winking Lizard, but the suburban ones are way too kid-friendly for my taste. The only place that I've really gone to by Jacobs Field is Pannini's. After the game, we generally head for the car and go home.

The pierogis are famous. President Clinton actually made it a point to stop in Parma to get some.
Other than that, probably not. You're not too far from Amish country, if you have the time. And there's a restaurant not too far from Cleveland that uses the original hamburger recipe, but that's closer to Akron.

The place that President Clinton stopped at was actually not that great and is no longer in business. This time of the year, the best place to get them on the wesr side would be the Grey Wolf Tavern (if it still exists).

There are a lot of places in the Cleveland area to get a good burger.

I only went there once, a few years back, but Hornblower's Barge and Grill, right on the lakefront by the R&R Hall of Fame was enjoyable at the time. Not a bad walk from the Jake.
Fat Fish Blue is pretty good, too, but that's not a place for the local catch.
