--Gil has been a tease so long its hard to believe this half season represents a break through. That said I wouldn't part with him as long as we are in contention. We just don't have anybody who can take his rotation spot. And if we did ....they should be taking Pinero's job instead.

Meche has never been as effective in any of his teases as he is now...his K/9 is way up since his third start (7.6), his BB/9 is down (3.6), and his HR/9 is also down (1.1)...that three-true-outcomes tests says Gil Meche is easily a solid #2 starting on a contending team and those guys make 4/$40M so whatever we end up signing Meche for would be a bargain.

What is the point of saying you want a "Poll" when what you really want is everybody to agree with you?
Meche is a somewhat below average pitcher who happens to posses an aboce average win-loss record. You guys ought to parlay that into someone who can hit the ball.

I guess I would be in the camp of trade him while his stock is this high. I think he's a pretty good pitcher, but it seems like he's never really put it together for consistent innings. I don't know what I would try to get out of the deal, but it seems like Meche may need a change of scenery before he pitches to his full potential (like Mark Prior -- maybe we could get him...jk).

Gwah? Dude...check a stat sheet before you talk...Meche is one of the top 10 or 12 SPs in the AL right now.

He is excited about his starts now, I think he is being pretty consistant. I think his curve ball is one of the tops in the league (2nd to Zito). I would
re-sign him.

Try checking his career record, particularly his NWL record.

I really really don't care about a pitcher's NWL...that's a nonsense statistic which has no meaning.
Nor do I particularly care what happened last year or the year before. Anyone who has actually WATCHED Meche pitch knows he's a different pitcher this year. You might try catch a start of his some time before you act like you know anything.

He's been lucky but even then he's been a solid middle of the rotation guy this year.

He hasn't been lucky at all.
His HR/FB is normal (about 11%)
His BABIP is about the same as the Mariners' team figure
There's nothing lucky about Meche on the year...yeah he's been a little lucky in his last 6 or 7 starts, but that was to balance out being highly UNlucky before that. LOL

No, I feel he can be the #3 starter next year.

--I want to believe Gil has turned a corner, but he has had great months and even very good 1/2 seasons before. He has always reverted back. We really can't afford to trade him unless we fall out of it before the trade deadline though. If we're in contention we don't have any reasonable options to replace him. Fortunately, if he does keep it up all year he is still committed to the M's (assuming they offer arbitration) for another year. If he keeps this up then we can negotiate a multi-year deal in the offseason without the risk of losing him.

Fan have been disappointed in Gil Meche, a first rounder, with great stuff. I think everyone is pulling for him. It's nice to see him throwing well. With 110 innings tossed so far, he is on pace for 200 innings, which will be more than he's ever thrown. He's 8-4 at the break and with about 15 starts left (give or take), we'll be happy with 18-8. He's a keeper.

Gil has never had a great half-season with THIS KIND of effective pitching. He's never missed bats this way before (7.6 K/9 since his third start of the season). This is a new Gil Meche, guys...stop and take notice, and put your (understandable) biases and fears aside.

Keep Gil. He's impressed me compared to him in recent years.

Leave him alone, it's his thread!! :p
I would keep Meche, he's looked much better than ever before this season imo.

Gill is a pitcher with great stuff. He has in the past been horribly inconsistant. Geez these guys must be head cases.
Remember Randy Johnson at the end of his career with Seattle? Remember Freddie Garcia? He would only pitch to Pat Borders and Pat would have to grab Freddie by the shirt and tell him to bear down.
Gill has the stuff to be one our best pitchers but who knows if he has finally figured everything out or will he go back to walking everyone and running his pitch count up so fast.
There is nothing worse than dumping a pitcher only to have them resurface as an Ace in another team.

Better than those extremely stupid and totally meaningless "balls in play" stats.
