Is there a good source that has new information about George Stovey? I was researching another player when I ran across his name as an umpire in a minor league in 1897. I believe that makes him the second black umpire in the minor leagues after Jacob Francis, who umpired for a season or more in the 1880's.
After Stovey was let go as an umpire, he pitched one game for his local minor league team at the end of the season.
