For me, baseball is so much more than just a game. It's a spiritual experience. Hitting/pitching are 2 of the most difficult things in sports to do well.

Comparing the different players is my joy. Fever is my heaven on Earth, and I am just so appreciative to Webmaster Sean Holtz.

Baseball's the only sport that interests me. It's always been like another member of my family.

Sometimes I'll be amazed by the athleticism of a good tennis match, but it can't be said that I follow tennis. I wouldn't clear the calendar to watch Wimbledon; I will drive a little faster to get home in time for the First Pitch of any ball game, though. :)

I just counted and there are 51 framed baseball photos plus clocks, bats, helmets, card binders and various pieces of memorabilia displayed in my apartment(91 total). That doesn't include books, magazines and old uniforms in the closet. I'm in trouble if my girlfriend and I take the big step. Even with all the negatives we hear about every day,I'll always love the game itself.

I bet I know what the other one is. LOL

For me....baseball is life itself.

Don't know how many here have read any of my other posts...sorry for repeating myself if I have....

There is nothing...and I mean NOTHING...better than baseball. During the summer, I eat, sleep, drink, and breathe it. My friends usually desert me in the summer because they know if they're here, there's a game on (tee-ball on a local sports network to MLB games)...and none of them like it, especially as much as I do. Actually, I have yet to meet anyone who likes it as much as I do. In the winter, I'm practicing however I can and reading as much as I can.

I still say, for those as dedicated as I am...male or female...the BEST cologne/perfume anyone could possibly make would be the combination of the smells....leather, cowhide, grass and dirt. I know I'd buy it. Yes...I'm that possessed...er...I mean...obsessed. Yes, obsessed...I think. LOL

It's true, as others have said, you THINK you've seen it all...then you watch a game and suddenly, at the right time...you see even the umpires sometimes shaking their heads, going "How the heck do we call that one??"

Unlike a lot of timed games (basketball, football, etc.)...you can NOT leave a stadium before that final out...no matter the score. Tee-ball to MLB...there have been games where one team is down by as many as 10 or more runs...and still pull off a win in the bottom of the 9th...and if a team REALLY rallies...sometimes even when there's 2 outs and no one on, they manage to pull it off.

My poem (cheesy as it was) in the Arts and Literature section doesn't even come close to accurately putting into words how I feel about the game....nor does this post.

There's so much more I could say...but it all comes to me at once and gets lost as one thought competes with another.

Being a Canuck, my passion was always hockey. I still love the game, although I passionately dislike the NHL (I'm an NCAA hockey fan now, Go UNH Wildcats!!). About 11 years ago I began my love affair with baseball, the year the M's went on their amazing run, and beat the Yankees in the ALDS. Now it is easily my favourite sport. I planned our last vacation so that we would be in SoCal during a week when we could watch the Angels, Dodgers, and Padres play. I subscribe to MLB.TV, and watch 2 or 3 games everyday. I get the shakes if I don't see ESPN Sunday night baseball each week. I love that baseball is the only sport that the defense controls the ball. I love that baseball is the only sport that has no time clock. I love that baseball is the only sport where each park is different. I love that baseball is the only sport that has different rules for each league ( although I hate the DH, and would love to see the AL ban it). I love that 90% of baseball games are played on natural grass, 100% in the NL. Baseball is absolutely the perfect summer sport, and I am absolutely hooked for life.

My friends always ask if I have a social life because I'm so obsessed with baseball.

I have been working on my drag bunt for a few months now, going to the cages at least once a week. Today I layed a perfect drag bunt down the 3rd base line, stole 2nd, and then scored the game winning run in a Babe Ruth district quarter-final game on a hit to the outfield. The proudest moment of my life. I live for this:D.

Baseball has always been my favorite sport...and always will be, I wil stick up for the game till I die. To me, no other sport, besides perhaps football (Go Seahawks haha) mean anything. Its my favorite sport to play too, every chance I get ill hit around or play some catch. I work at a sporting goods store and lets just say, the old baseball section we had, amazing, I would sit there and just test out the gloves we had, it was wonderful, but alass now most of the baseball stuff has been bought with the exception of pinetar sticks and things of that nature.

Yep! For me...the "first official day of summer" is the day they televise the first pre-season game...not whatever the calender says! LOL

I just need to find some baseball friends...someone who's willing to come over for all the games, even when there isn't a MLB game on, I'm watching the local sports network to see the local kids (grade school to college) play hardball.

Baseball is not a sport, it is a religion. Although the denominations do matter. Red Sox fans are a nation. (Although it will be cold day in NY city before I PAY to become an official member!)

So, I'm a member of a religion that is a nation. We should have a Representative to the UN.

I have on my computer, ASAP, the countdown to spring training. I try to watch the trucks leave Boston for spring training camp. I carry an updated schedule results with me (sortable schedule at redsox.com).

I like hockey, but was spoiled by my high school team- Norwood Mustangs, then Orr and team. After that...basketball....blah....football...blah.

There is NOTHING like being 20 seats away from the ball that is Varitek's first grand slam. There is nothing like being outside Fenway during the World Series, with people from Australia, Finland, Red Sox Nation being focused. Or being in a pub in England, where the Cockney accent is soooo thick, wearing your cap, hearing, "Red Sox, to the Red Sox!"

Watching a little kid play catch, or swing a bat; you see pure innocence and envy the beginnings of another baseball fan. It's not as important as reading to a child, it is a rite of passage.

I'm not a Mom, but I can bake a great Apple Pie!

Exactly! My 3 favorite things to hear from my own kids:

"MOM! I did it! I hit/caught the ball this time!"

"Mom, could you get your mitt? I want to practice catching."

"Mom, can we go to the ballpark today? PLEASE!!!!!!"

I'm not a Mom, but I can bake a great Apple Pie!

Reverse that for me. LOL I am a mom....but I can't bake....at all. Maybe a meatloaf now and then (the kids do love it, so I guess I can bake a LITTLE bit)...the hubby is in charge of dinner...I only do breakfast and lunch, nothing fancy at all...and I rarely even cook on the stove top. However, I can microwave with the best of 'em. Wonder if I could nuke an apple pie? :crazy

baseball to me respresents the best time of the year, summer. The baseball games, bbqs, fishing, outdoor lounging, cold beer on a hot day, camping, the 4th of july, vactions and so on. The offseason, cold dark winters, hibernation, hot chocolate, shoveling, car problems, colds, flu, etc.. You see where I'm comming from. Not to mention I really don't care much for any other sports especially ones in the winter ie. hockey, football an so on. So baseball to me, is the greatest sport in America, it is a part of America, its a part of what makes this country so great. Baseball, The National Pastime.

The funny thing is, our football team does really good in the regular season. Then everyone starts acting like our team's so great, but they lose big time in th e playoffs. See, our team isn't good. We just play a ton of really crappy teams. We're the best of the worst.

I just received the DVD set of the 1975 World Series, and have watched the first four games. This set reminded of what I liked about the game when I was gowing up. I've lost interest in the game on the field over the last four or five years. I wouldn't say that baseball was better in 1975, but I will say it was a lot more entertaining. I didn't watch much baseball on TV in the 70s, aside from the Indians, when they were on, but I like the coverage better in that era than today's. I think when it come to broadcasting, less is really more. As a caveat, I am taking about NBCs coverage. I remember hating ABCs coverage, and watching some old ABC games on ESPN Classic reminded me why I didn't like it. The first time I remember watching ABC coverage that I actually enjoyed was the 1985 post-season.

I really like the history of the game, but I think the game on the field is kind of boring right now.
