Looks like Eddie is shipping out to the Cincinnatti Reds in exchange for a 21 year old right hander named Travis Chick.

I will miss Eddies clubhouse presence, but am relived that he will not be doing any more damage to us.

The real question is why the Reds wanted Eddie, when he is in the same league as Weathers and Coffey.

Travis Chick is a nice prospect...great return on ZERO investment!

YESS!!! It's about damn time the Mariners made a good move. The Perez deal wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. This is the best move Bavasi has made in a long time...probably since Johjima. Wow. I can't believe the Reds took one of the most washed up pitchers in the game. All the same, GOOD LUCK EDDIE!!

David Weathers, their opening day closer, has 38.0 IP, 3-3 record with 9 saves, 24 strikeouts and a 5.45 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP with 6 blown saves.

Coffey has been struggling as a closer, and wants to go back to a set up man. Has 2 blown saves in about a month, and an ERA of about 3, and 3 losses with 8 Earned runs from the 17th of June to now since switching to the closer roll.

Eddie has 23.0 IP, 1-3 record with 5 saves and 22 strikeouts, an ERA of 5.48 and a WHIP of 1.74 with 3 blown saves.

I think that the Reds either think that Eddie will fare better against National League hitting, or have not paid attention to him all that much.

I just don't understand this. Eddie's having a poor year, sure, but he's one of the best relief pitchers in the history of baseball, and you're happy to get nothing but a ho-hum prospect?

You got two things right, Eddie and History.

Eddie was a good closer, now he is washed up. Maybe he can
re-surface in the NL, but for the AL, he is done.

Getting anything for him is better than any of us expected, I think we all were just assuming we would designate him for assignment, and he wouldn't get resigned.

The words "washed up" don't even really do Eddie justice. He is terrible. He's been pitching with a torn rotator cuff for over a year and it shows every time he steps on the mound. To keep things in perspective, this trade is the equivalent to them having Boone suck last year but trading him at the last minute for Brandon Philips (a once great prospect that some were referred to as "ho-hum").

Eddie has been terrible this year. I saw the warning signs last year.
Well, the Reds seem to want him. The blog sites are praising is name.
The reds bull pen is horrible and who knows what a change of scenery will do? Personally I believe Eddie is finished in the major leagues but I’ve seen stranger things.

--They have to be to trade for Eddie. I was getting queasy every time he got up in the pen. He seems like a good guy though. Good luck to him.

I am going to miss Eddie, he was good in the clubhouse.

I remember last year on a pre-game show, Gregg Dobbs had played a practical joke on Eddie, so he took Dobbs' new guitar and smashed it. They had video of him smashing it, it was pretty funny.

He seemed to be signing as many autographs as he could recently, I bet he new he was leaving soon, one way or another.

EH...you obviously know nothing about either Guardado's current situation or Travis Chick. Which doesn't surprise me...you're knowledge of today's game is as incomplete as you'd expect of any Yankee fan.

Do you guys know if he is going to close in Cincy?
I thought Coffey was serviceable- till this past week. Poor guy has taken a beating!

I believe they will try Guardado at closer...their other options are washouts.

Judging by those numbers:

1. The Reds are desperate for pitching.
2. Have no clue what a closer's job is.
3. Have just lost the NL Central.

A fresh start.

That stat was horrible compared to the 04-05 job he did.

I am not entirly sure, but I think Coffey said he is more comfortable in a
set-up position, where he had an ERA of about .5. They also said they belive Eddie "lives for the 9th inning."

He did pretty well tonight for the Reds I belive, I would say that he will close for the Reds in the future.

I'll miss Eddie's passion. He was fun to watch out there. That being said, his days were done. JJ was the obvious choice to take over, and the M's have so much bullpen talent that Eddie had to go. He couldn't throw a first pitch strike anymore, and when no-one was swinging at his outside stuff, he had to come in with his pathetic 88 mph fastball over the middle of the plate. You can't have your set up man giving up dinger after dinger like he was. Thanks for the effort and I wish you all the best in Cincy.

Something to note: he pitched a scoreless ninth and struck out Marcus Giles in Atlanta last night. Cincy won 10-5, so no save.
