Having now reached Day 29 of "Why the H*** Isn't Hochevar Under Contract?" I am guessing that a reasonable "over/under" wager on the date Hochevar signs as September 1, 2006. Not sure many people familiar with the Royals will want the "under". Drafting a Scott Boras client without having an agreement in place. What the h*** were they thinking??

Well, tomorrow we reach the 5 week mark since drafting this doofus. Everybody is still making nice but once again Boras is on the make. Pretty clear he is going to watch what plays out with Andrew Miller (the Tigers seem committed to paying him over slot) as well as demand a major league contract.
The only choice they have now is to stick to their guns and see if Hochevar is really willing to sit out another season.

We are now at the eight week mark now and still no deal. In fact, the four guys who were unsigned three weeks ago remain unsigned. The "over" is beginning to look like a mortal lock.

I'm not very familiar with how the draft works out, if he doesn't sign does he sit out another year? I don't understand why someone would want to do that.

The team that drafts you has until the next draft to get you signed. if not, you go into the next draft. Nobody thinks that is oging to happen in this case as Hochevar has already sat out one year.

Color me red in face. I never thought it would get done this soon. The Royals caved in to get this done which is okay with me. They paid a little more than they might of had to to get this deal done and gave Hochevar a major league contract which is unusual, but not rare.
Hopefully this paves the way for Hochevar to make it to KC in about a year.

So he held out twice with the Dodgers to join the Royals. What the hell is he thinking?

Hochevar makes his first appearance tonight for the A level Burlington minor league affiliate of the Royals. He will be allowed about 30-35 pitches.

Apparently he had a pretty good night with 2 no-hit innings. Will he pitch "this many innings" every start or was this just since he hadn't played in a while? I don't know much about the minors.

Hochevar will probably be called up as our rosters expand in September .
