Despite his batting average, I'm pretty impressed with the way Thorman has performed in the majors so far. He's chased some bad pitches, but when he's hit the ball he's hit it well -- often, though, right at the defense. Not to mention his diving stop at first yesterday.

He's off to a good start in july, hitting over .400 in a small sample of ~8 at bats, if I recall correctly.

Where should Thorman play? Right now it seems Bobby is playing him in LF to spell Langerhans, and at 1B against Lefties. Langerhans might see more playing time, though, with homers in his last two games. Thorman got the start yesterday at 1B against a righty with LaRoche sitting out with back spasms.

He knocked in a run yesterday and I like what I see from him.

Keep platooning him. He takes away pitches to the opposite field, and can power the ball anywhere. I expect some big things from him in the not to distant future.

Congrats to Thorman on his first major league homer, albeit in a blow out!

He really swings hard and when he connects he usually drives the ball. It looks like he is going to be the everyday leftfielder for the rest of the year, at least against right handers. I wouldn't be surprised if Langerhans is part of some type of deal for relief help. Anyway, it looks like Thorman is the real deal.

he needs to be the everyday firstbasemen, we need to get rid of laroche

What about trading Laroche for relief pitching, moving Chipper to 1st and inserting Wilson Betemit at 3rd?

I am not a big Laroche fan, even though I pull for anybody on the Braves. To be honset I like both of your scenarios, but the Braves seem to be high on Laroche. He's got power, but about all he seems to contribute are extra base hits. I think Betemit would be a much better offensive force than Laroche. My main problem with moving Chipper to first, is that it might be harder on his foot. Especially with the way he's hitting now. I can't help but to think of the miserable Left Field experiment. Year in year out Chipper's been our best all around hitter and I don't like doing anything that might hurt his play.

Thorman homered again tonight and he now has 4 HR. He currently has 10 RBI and a .262 AVG. For some reason he reminds of former Brave Mike Hessman, a big strong guy who can play corner OF and IF positions.

That pitch he hit the homerun off of was inside off the plate. He has to have quick hands to have gotten around on that ball and smashed it that far. Not quite sure how he did it. I also like his hustle down the line everytime he puts the ball in play.

What about trading Laroche for relief pitching, moving Chipper to 1st and inserting Wilson Betemit at 3rd?I like that because Chipper is injury prone and Betemit is very good, but Thorman won't platoon at first. Iffy situation.

Thorman gives Braves some flexibility. Maybe the Braves can move Langerhans and Kelly Johnson for pitching in the offseason.

Nah Thorman's best bet is left field for now. LaRoche is gonna hit 30 homers this year, the braves aren't quick to move him. Plus Chipper likes 3rd and he's going to stay at 3rd.

Thorman has showed great promise but it is far too soon to give him the 1B job. He looks pretty good in LF anyway.

I agree with you 100%. Although I know if something were to happen and they asked Chipper to move to first he would. After all how many players would give up a position were they were an All-Star every year for one they may never make All-Star at? Not many.

OK, you have everyone staying at their respective positions. But, WHAT ABOUT Wilson Betemit?!! If the Braves trade him, you might lose a Braves fan.

He continues to platoon, and if Giles leaves Betemit will fill in that spot.

They way it stands right now either Giles or Betemit is going to have to leave at somepoint. Chipper is definitely not going anywhere. Laroche and Renteria will most likely be staying where they are. I think Giles is eligible for arbitration at the end of the year so he could very possibly be the one to go. I know there have been rumors of trading Betemit to San Diego for relief help, but it probably won't happen so long as Giles is injured. We could use another arm, but after the Wickman trade we are not as desperate as we were before. As far as no longer being a Braves fan if we lose Betemit, that's just the nature of baseball right now. I remember being at the game when they announced Deon Sanders had been traded. I think everyone in the stadium booed that one. I didn't like the Brett Butler trade or the Klesko trade either. Losing Maddux and Glavine also hurt. It was a bittersweet moment watching the press conference after Maddux got win number 300. I couldn't help but thinking Mr. Cox shoulf have opened it instead of Dusty Baker, and Maddux should have been in a Braves uniform on the field and had a Braves hat on during the press conference. Same for strikeout number 3000. I don't like it anymore than you do, but player turn over do to free agency and trade is a part of the modern game.

I think we really could of used Andy Marte who was traded in the deal to get Edgar Renteria. I cringed when I saw the deal for Edgar. Although Edgar has played better than we could have expected, it was a steep price to pay. We really took a hit losing furcal to LAD and Marte in the trade. Marte was supposed to be heir apparent to Chipper at 3B, but now that could be Wilson Betemit. I just have a feeling that we gonna be seeing Andy Marte flourish as an Indian if he gets some PT.

I don't know if anyone posted this or knew that Scott Thorman was demoted yesterday so Lance Cormier could make that start. He will be back September 1st when rosters expand.

We had to demote Thorman? Why not demote Kevin Barry or better yet Tyler Yates?

Because the way the bullpen has been pitching and with the injured starters, Bobby has decided to keep an extra pitcher (13) on the Roster.

I have been impressed by Tony Pena. I have not seen him do anything every game he has played in.

I can't wait to see Will Startup in the bigs. He hasn't been as overwhelming at Richmond as he was at Mississippi, but still far from bad. I give the organization a lot of credit for not calling him up during all the bullpen trouble this season.

Give him another season at Richmond, maybe a September callup next season.

They should let him develop, we saw what happened with Joey Devine.
