Now I've gotta say, this guy has got to be fed up! What does a guy have to do to become the #1 catcher on a team? No errors behind the plate? Check! throw out runners 60% of the time? Check! Bat .378? Check!
And yet of all things, he ends up on a team right behind Mr. "No one" Mauer, who ends up hitting .392 to this point!!! I mean that really has to suck! He (Redmond) goes out and has a career year so far, and it just so happens that the guy in front of him happens to have a year for the record books!!! Great for the team - bad for Redmond.

Gardenhire is reluctant to play both Mauer and Redmond in the same game(one at DH) because it would leave us without a catcher on the bench.
It's a valid concern, but I think it's somewhat silly considering Gardenhire had no problem carrying FOUR catchers on our roster for the majority of last season.

His .378 average is not a true reflection of his talent as a hitter. As an everyday hitter, he's not a good hitter. He is a smart hitter, but not a talented one. His current situation allows Gardy to play him in certain situations to either pinch hit, or spell other players. He's also not the best fielding catcher. He can hold is own, but he's not nearly as good as most MLB catchers. His real asset lies in the ability to work with pitchers. He's probably doing most of his best work at team practice, then in actual games. He's a very smart player, and will probably make a good coach some day.
Mr. "No One" Mauer? What does that mean? He's been on the cover of ESPN magazine, and was the number 1 overall pick by the Twins, ahead of Mark Prior.
