I'm curious about your opinion about this. Yes, Joel has been horrible and was unbelievably bad in his less than 3 innings yesterday.
Put your emotions aside and tell me what you think about Joel as a pitcher. Is he finished at 28 years old or is this just a temporary dry spell for him?

--This dry spell has lasted for about 3 years. I can't see anyway he gets resigned next year. We probably should be looking to upgrade his rotation spot ASAP if we hope to stay in the division race.

Haha, there goes leecemark with his pestimism.
Joel is inconsistant, but a great pitcher. I think Joel's career is far from over, but he needs to work out his troubles. I am not sure if sending him down will do much, but when he is on, he is amazing.
I am thinking we might want to send him down or trade him, and look for either another starter, or center fielder (with Reed out), because those our are two holes. We have some good pitchers in the minors right now, so we might bring them up, but I would like to see us go after someone, being in the pennant race.

Nope...I don't agree. It doesn't take a trained eye to spot that Pineiro is toast. His fastball used to be 93-94 with movement...now it's 87-90 and flat. His curveball used to have late movement and be much sharper, now it rolls. He used to have good command of his change-up, now he's lucky if he doesn't hang it.
He needs to be removed from this team.

From Sportsline.com:
Manager Mike Hargrove met with RHP Joel Pineiro after Saturday's game where Pineiro lasted only 2 2-3 innings, his shortest start of the season. Hargrove felt Pineiro had good stuff, but was overthrowing, especially with two outs. Colorado scored seven runs off Pineiro, all with two out. "When you feel strong and you feel like you're throwing well and have good stuff, that's when you need to take a deep breath, step back and not try to be so dominating that you do over throw.
Pineiro is on pace for 200 innings and about 28 decisions; 35 walks in over 100 inninngs pitched so far. Would you take a 15-15 record from Joel ? Sure he gives up hits, but he like Washburn, goes right after you. Hitters know he doesn't walk many and they will get a pitch in the strike zone. Like Smurf says, sometimes he is lights out.

We've seen flashes of brilliance from Joel from time to time, then something like this happens. His E.R.A. is almost 6 now!

I'd like our staff to pitch inside more. You don't have to live there, but you got to go up and in once in a while. What better time to pitch inside then when you can't find the plate ? Every pitcher has to adjust to the conditions: the park, the mound, the strike zone of the day. I'm not saying hit a batter, but more of put it in their head, that you pitch inside.
I remember a few years back, the M's had this right handed starter, that was tough as nails. He didn't have the best stuff, but he was a pitbull out there on the mound. Anyway, back when we had some strong teams, he walks the bases loaded and you can see him say, "F*** This S***," to himself. He then goes up and in to the next batter and knocks him in the dirt. He procedes to strike out the side.

Having Joel go down to Triple A would be a good idea. Geez, he is only 28 and has had great starts in his past. There was a time when he was looking at being the ace. Now he totally sucks and seems to be getting worse every start.
Most disturbing to me is the fact that his fastball has trailed off and he's supposedly converted to a finesse pitcher. Why would his fastball fall off at such a young age? Aren’t there a lot of other guys who are throwing heat well into their 40’s?
So I’m wondering,….is his stuff gone or has someone convinced him to be a different pitcher?

He has been hovering near the 6.00 ERA mark for a long time...

That is too many seasons to "fix up" his stuff. I personally think they should pull the plug---

I read in the NYPost that the Yanks might deal Chacon for Pineiro.

Shouldn't be that hard to do... Clint Nagoette or Bobby Livingston can fill in and be just as effective, IMO.
