It's been pretty obvious to many of us that some guys get lots of love in that they appear often. Others seemingly get the back of Joe's hand. Perhaps out of need moreso than anything else (Torre's seen what's happened to Proctor after overuse), Ron Villone has been getting Joe's trust, and thankfully, he's reciprocated this with mostly fine performances. A nice stepping stone upwards from being bound to mopup duty.
Anyway, let's discuss here who's been getting the innings and who'd just been warming up and riding the pine in the bullpen out there, rarely been seen or heard from, much less having his name in a boxscore several times a week.
Right now, we have 4 guys currently getting the love, attention and trust:
CL-Mariano the Great!
He'll always get the love, and deservedly so. Hopefully, the "Bridge to Mo" just got a bit sturdier and more fun along the way, as he'll likely get the ball with the lead, rather than their closer shutting us down.
SU-Kyle Farnsworth
He's slowly becoming more consistent, rather than the usual "1 run per inning" thing, since he'll often be asked to replicate in the 8th what Mo does in the 9th.
MR-Scott Proctor
He's long gotten too much attention in being an almost everyday player. It almost seemed like Posada played in as many guys as he did. However, he's coming back from the shellshock of inconsistency that results from overuse.
MR-Ron Villone
He's finally been upgraded from mopup duty with his 1-hit, 2.0 scoreless innings against the once and still mighty Mets. Hopefully, he can keep this up, as we can't just keep going to the same 2-3 guys all season w/o their arms falling off.
Thoughts on Mike Myers, Matt Smith and recent call-up, TJ Beam?
