I made my first ever trip to the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown earlier this month, and while there, saw something I had a slight "connection" to:

The yellow shirt in the center of both photos is from the Pawtucket Slaterettes, the oldest all-girls' baseball league in the country.
I had the honor of coaching a team in the league last year...and it was an amazing experience. It was nice to see the league honored in Cooperstown's excellent "women in baseball" exhibit.
The plaque next to the shirt reads "Jersey worn by Samantha Angulo in 2002, the 30th season of the Pawtucket Slaterettes Girl's Baseball League, the oldest girls' league in the country".

That's very awesome! I have yet to make it to Cooperstown, but plan on doing it soon. It's nice to see that they are honoring women baseball players (finally), and people are starting to take notice. My women's hardball team, the Detroit Danger... www.detroitdanger.com, played in a historic game in August 2001. We played at historic Tiger Stadium in Detroit, MI against an all-star women's team from Toronto. It made history by being the only all-women's baseball game ever to be played at Tiger Stadium and forever will remain to be. We all signed a ball after the game in hopes of it getting into the hall of fame. Did you by chance see the ball or anything from that game there?

I highly recommend making the trek to Cooperstown if you get the chance...well worth it!
I don't remember seeing the ball per-say, but there is so much to see at the HOF I might have looked right at it and simply not remember. I certainly plan to make a return trip in a couple years.
I think there was a pitcher in the Slaterettes league last year from around Detroit. All I remember is that she threw really hard and I think I heard she'd played "semi-pro" back in Michigan. Wonder if she played in your league, too.

Thats awesome!
While we're on the subject, I'm curious if the hall made any refrence to the 24 hour baseball game held by 72 women for charity in Tucson, Arizona on October 18 - 19, 2003 at the home of the Arizona Diamonbacks and The Chicago White Soxs spring training. (Goodness, what a long game that was! :) )
I know it was archived by the hall but I dont think anything was put on display. But seeing an item from 2002 up now, sparks my curiousty.

That does it! I'm moving to Pawtucket!! Anyone want to come with me? LOL Wait, I'm closer to Detroit....hmm....Tigers...nevermind, I'm going to Rhode Island!
Speaking of Pawtucket....26 days and counting until I'll be in the stands to see the Mud Hens and Pawtucket do battle. Counting the days impatiently. The 26th can't get here soon enough.

Don't count on the Tigers for being very supportive of women's baseball. Been there and tried that, but didn't work very well. MLB is still a very male-dominated, sexist, good ole' boys network. MLB was asked to support women's baseball, much like how the WNBA is supported by the NBA, but MLB wanted no part of it. On top of it all, MLB highly publicizes and supprots women's softball, again, contributing to pushing women into softball.

That's why I'd rather go to Pawtucket. Even if they Slaterettes aren't backed by MLB, it's still baseball, not softball. Besides, I never liked the Tigers much. LOL

LOL... I don't like softball, either. I don't care who plays it and whether it's slow pitch or fast pitch... men or women. I just don't like it. Baseball is where it's at for me. Sometimes, most of the time, it's better to see the amateurs out there, anyway.

ALL of the time! LOL Much rather see a "lousy" baseball game than a "good" softball game....and as for playing....there is no comparison. :)

Hey.. wait a minnute... I play church league softball, and I must say.. There is no such thing as a good slow pitch mens softball game.;)
Seriously, congrats on getting those items into the Hall. Of all teh things I didn't get around to doing at FanFest last year, the one I regret most is not talking to the ladies of the AAGPBL.
