Since we have a thread here with a lot of post "What's your favorite sport..." about the World Cup, wouldn't it be interesting to have a sub-forum devoted to other sports?

I think so... it seems soccer/football has taken over the "other sport" thread :D

Good idea in my opinion :clapping

No. One thread is enough, and in some people's opinion, too much. Sure, some people here like other sports, and for some, baseball isn't even their favorite (wilkerson_rulz, who I see you know, is one), but this is BASEBALL-Fever, not Baseball-and-some-other-sports-Fever

This has been discussed many times before. Most of the mods won't go for it,because there afraid that the conversations will spill over into the other boards, and I would have to agree with that, after all this is baseball-fever.Its been discussed here:http://www.baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=43516 and here:http://www.baseball-fever.com/showthread.php?t=40062 .
Wilkerson_rulz (who won't be back on BBF for a while,as you seem to know.) started a yahoo group that BBF members could join and talk about non-topic stuff, but I don't know much about it.

P.S:How do you know Wilkerson_rulz?

I used to be a guest on this site, I joined because of the game (BBFTG).

If people want to, they can discuss whatever they like via PM. There is nothing to prevent members from exchanging email addresses, phone numbers, etc, privately.

To alter the structure of Fever isn't necessary. Besides, plenty of personal trivia gets in every thread via chit chat.

What would be the point of going so far as to formalize non-baseball chat? I register a very strong no vote on such a concept.

Baseball Fever is exactly what it wants to be - the best place to enjoy serious baseball discussion.

Yeah, we would also have a lot of political threads on a baseball board.

One of the reasons why I have stayed here so long now (is that a good thing?) is because the mods and creator of this boards have managed to maintain this site in a baseball fashion. This message board for good or bad doesn't get sidetracked into non-baseball subjects. It doesn't stop being a baseball site and suddenly start having conversations about some favorite movie or artist or college football or something that is happening in high school.

Everything starts innocent enough. "who is it going to hurt?" "Whats the big deal?" so on and so on. But the bottom line to me is this something that will add to the baseball discussions? The answer for me is no. Is this something that will draw new people to this site? Answer again no. Is this something that will keep people here? Again the answer is no. The only thing this does is give a shout out to popular posters which don't really need any incentive to stay. There here, there contributing, they already get a response so what is it going to achieve. Its a cookie with very little reward and with a possibility for some negatives. Is it worth it. Personally I think what is happening already is fine. Most posters who would probably win these awards get made into mods isn't that good enough? Are not mods supposed to embody what this award would represent. Posting thoughtful and inciteful posts in a manner that is appreciated by many, isn't that what it is supposed to be about?

This was originally posted in the "Should there be MOTM (Member of the Month)" thread by Ubiquitous, and it applies perfectly again here IMO.

I'm in favor of keeping BBF as 100% about baseball. Since we've simultaneously had sports finals in each of the NHL, NBA, and with the continuing popularity of soccer, then Wimbledon is on its way, I can see way too much room for keeping the peace.

With a far larger audience, it's like we'd then become a larger magnet for people trying to hawk their wares on the various auction websites, or their own websites for that matter. I'm quite sure that for various other sports, as well as the politics, there are more than enough sites on the Internet available. :)

Just to go on record, I'm in agreement with Mattingly on keeping BBF 100% baseball. We all know that side conversations are slipped in frequently as it is...there's no need to make them "official."
