Phillies pitcher charged with hitting wife
June 23, 2006

BOSTON (AP) -- Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Brett Myers was arrested Friday and charged with hitting his wife in the face on a street not far from Fenway Park.

Myers, who was scheduled to pitch Saturday against the Red Sox, pleaded not guilty to assault charges at his arraignment Friday in Boston Municipal Court, said David Procopio, a spokesman for the Suffolk County District Attorney's office. Myers' next court date is Aug. 4.

Myers was arguing with his wife shortly after midnight at the corner of Boylston and Dalton (hint) streets, Procopio said. The woman and two witnesses told police the 25-year-old pitcher hit her. One witness told investigators Myers also pulled her hair.

"The evidence at this point leads us to believe the victim was struck in the left side of her face," Procopio said. He added that investigators are trying to determine if Myers hit her with a fist or open hand and whether he hit her more than once.

Police responded to a 911 call and found Myers' wife crying with a swollen face, Procopio said. Officers found Myers nearby and arrested him. Myers was booked by Boston police and his wife posted his $200 bail. Procopio did not know how long Myers spent in jail.

Procopio said he would not identify Myers' wife because she is a domestic violence victim. A player biography on Major League Baseball's Web site says Myers married Kim Wickman in September 2002 and the couple has a 3-year-old daughter.

The Phillies had no immediate comment.

As part of his bail conditions, Myers must not initiate contact with his wife and can see her only if she wants to see him. The judge also ruled that if Myers is arrested again while out on bail he can be jailed for up to two months.

Myers, 6-foot-4 and 240 pounds, made his debut with the Phillies in July 2002. This season, he is 5-3 with a 3.77 ERA.

Why, of course, it's the intersecting street, Dalton (close enough)! Please tell all Phillies players to stay away, FAR away from Darren and anything named Daulton, or Dalton, including world-famous china!

What a moron. I can't believe he hits a woman, even in the middle of a street in plain site.

Nice guy. ( eye roll )....................... What a loser.

I don't know anything about the guy, so I'll just guess he's either a drunk, or a total jerk, perhaps both. Then again, maybe it was a case of " 'Roid Rage".

He's scheduled to pitch against Schilling on Saturday afternoon. I'm sure the crowd will be nice and supportive.............Not.

Sounds like he's related to Michael Myers of the "Halloween" movies. You'd think with all the negative publicity these days, players would hesitate and think doing anything like this. Of course, the heat of the moment and a few drinks might make rational thinking a bit hazy. Are they still married or seperated?

Since you guys dont know, I'll fill ya in on him....Brett Myers has always let his emotions get the best of him on the field, leading to early exits and horrible starts. He often can be seen yelling irratically in the dugout during a bad start, so bad to the point where Charlie Manuel actually wakes up to come and try to calm him down, and his emotions obviously got the best of him in this situation....No one is a man if they hit a woman, I wouldnt call him the Ultimate scumbag becuase there are plenty of men who do worse things to thier wives on numerous occasions...but even with that, there is no excuse for hitting youre wife or any woman for that matter. Brett needs some consoling to help him out, he's got a lot of promise he just lets the emotions get the best of him.
And yes he is still married to his wife,Kim, she paid his 200 bail.

I dont think the Sox fans will be has hard on Myers as say they would if they were playing the yanks and Giambi had just been arrested or something like that...the sox and Phils could care less about each other. I'm sure there will be signs and stuff like that but nothing compared to what it would be if say a yankee was involved. Now if it were any other team in Philly then yes you would see signs, chants, etc.

Apparently Brett wanted to go back to the hotel while his wife Kim wanted to stay out. Myers then struck her in the face twice, to the account of witnesses, with a closed fist. Another Witness also claims he pulled her hair.
