Forgive me if this has been discusses this specifically before, but in a few threads i see mentioned the idea of realigning the NL into 4 4 team divisions. While i am not sure if it should be done for a vareity of reasons, i looked at the teams and came up with this idea - tell me what you think of it:
EAST
New York
Pittsburgh
Philadelphia
Washington
No not something where the Mets ownership paid off Selig to have this division set up this way, but in looking at the way i set the rest of the league up this is the only thing that makes any sense. The Pirates and Phillies belong playing each other on a regular basis.
CENTRAL
Chicago
Cincinnati
Milwaukee
St Louis
Its a shame this can't be set up to have Cincy and Pittsburgh in the same division, but Cincinnati does not belong in the East and in a four team division Pittsburgh does not belong in the Central.
WEST
Arizona
Los Angeles
San Diego
San Fransisco
Falls together quite nicely.
SOUTHWEST
Atlanta
Colorado
Florida
Houston
This is the division that gave me the most problems - and it seems whenever you realign any sport you end up with one division that basically spans half the country. Colorado is kind of out on the edge here, but what other team do you put in this division? Cincinnati? Chicago?
Not sure how well the owners will buy this. I can see Atlanta under their new ownership being a problem - the geograhic rivalries, for the most part, are better, but who wants to give up playing the Mets on a regular basis?
Anyhow, was bored and thought i would come up with this - tell me what you guys think.

I think you mean SOUTHEAST instead of SOUTHWEST. ;) :)
So then, the best in each division make it to the playoffs. I personally think the divisions are too small. You could have 4 really cruddy teams in one division, and the best of those 4 makes it in? (It happened last year with the NL WEST)
I wish it would go back to either 2 divisions with the top 4 or top 2 teams in the playoffs, or one divsion with the top 4 or top 2 teams in the playoffs. I love the long post season, and having only 2 teams from each league in the playoffs would shorten up the postseason, but, the best teams would be there, no matter what. Remember in 01 when Seattle had 116 wins? Oakland had 102 wins, and they were the wildcard! What if a similar sitution happened, and they didn't even get to be in the playoffs, because of a 4 division league?
Just my thoughts, and I know there's no one best way to organize anything, and it is fun to think about. :)

If you stick to these 16 teams then you have to move Colorado to the Central and Cincinnati to the South (ala Indianapolis Colts in the AFC South).
East
New York
Philadelphia
Pittsburgh
Washington
Central
Chicago
Colorado
Milwaukee
St. Louis
South
Atlanta
Cincinnati
Florida
Houston
West
Arizona
Los Angeles
San Diego
San Francisco
Personally, I'd rather see Colorado move to the AL and have an expansion team in the NL. Preferably in San Antonio. Then you can add San Antonio to the NL South and leave Cincinnati in the NL Central or North, whichever you prefer.

That would never work. Think about it for a moment. Adding Colorado to the AL gives them 15 teams - replacing Colorado with San Antonio gives the NL 16 teams. What you are basically doing is making the AL have a bye team with every series - ie 15/2 = 7.5. To do what you want you would have to give the AL an expansion team as well - and since franchises like Florida and Tampa seem to be running on fumes i'm not sure giving out expansion teams is a wise idea at this point.

I never addressed what I would do for the American League. You just assumed I would leave the American League at 15 teams, which I wouldn't do. That would be asinine. Anyhow, I would indeed add another team to the American League.
East

Next time you read a post you may not want to jump to conclusions without a solid confirmation.

well...if Florida goes out west, the Pirates could go into the east, while then the divisions would have an even amount of teams....that would simply change it..no need to make another division and make it four in each, with that each division would be too thin.

New York
Philadephia
Pittsburgh
Washington
Central:
Atlanta
Chicago
Cinncinatti
Houston

Arizona
Colorado
Los Angeles

I send Milwaukee to the AL, putting them in the Central Division, and sending Minnesotta to the West Division.

You cannot do that, every league must have an even number of teams, no an odd number, you didnt realize that?

Actually you could have odd numbers in both leagues. You would just have to have an interleague game daily.

I like your ideas, but you could put Colorado in the NL West, then take Arizona and put them with Atlanta, Florida, and Houston and call it the NL South.

Yes i did. What i propose is that every week we have 14 league matchups and one interleague matchup. Wouldn't it be fun???:crazy

No. Heck no. No way. As infrequently as interleague games are being played now - people think they are overdone. A daily interleague game would be death. Unless you can sell it to a seperate network and bring in more revinue (hmm, i think i said this somewhere).
