Last night the Stros win 9-2 and take the first game of the Cubs series. Burke was the man going 4-for-4 and scored 5 of the Astros runs (which tied a club record along w/Biggio). Thought the Stros would really jump on the Cubs in the 3rd with the bases loaded and no outs. Pettite, now 6-7 5.46, pitched good last night up until the 7th. Looked like it was going to be a 1-2-3 bottom of the 9th when Lidge got the first 2 outs, then things fell apart a little with his control and a couple of wild pitches. He gave up 3 straight hits before getting the final ground out to Burke.

Oswalt comes off DL and takes the mound tonight against Maddux.

Oswalt pitched a good 6 innings tonight. Threw about 90 pitches. He may have hit better than he pitched. He had a single and a double. Infield turned 3 DP. Wheeler, Miller, and Qualls each got a hold and Lidge closed the door with a strong 1-2-3 game over performance in the 9th. Lidge picked up his 17th save. Stros move within 5 games out of first due to the StL losing.

Got the Sweep! Stros have won 4 in a row and 8 out of the last 9.

Nice rally there in the 8th. Good clutch hitting by Ausmus. Nieve pitched a soild 5.2 innings, giving up a couple of runs early then he settled down. Borkowski got the win, Qualls the hold and "Lights Out" Lidge got his 18th save. Lidge really looked locked in. Glad to start getting some wins on the road for a change.

Tonight it's a trip back home to Houston to face Kansas City for three games, then another 3-game series, starting Tuesday, at the Juice Box to deal with Gardenhire and his Twins.

Edit: disregard my post about Johan Santana, he won't be pitching there. But Radke's there to fill in.

Loss to the Royals.
WTF
How do they lose to the worst team in history

The Stros flipped-flopped a 7-2 loss Friday night with a 7-2 win yesterday. I thought they would sweep KC. Berkman went crazy going 3-for-4 and 4 RBIs. Berkman now has 60 RBIs so far and is second in NL. Lamb and Everett also went 3-for-4 each. These three had 9 out of the Stros 11 hits.

Bushholz pitched 6 strong innings allowing 2 hits and 2 runs and 6 Ks.

The game got a little tight with Qualls pitching in the 7th. Bases loaded and 1 out, Stros got a DP.

Petitte on the mound today. Now with Clemens coming back who will be the odd-man out? Sounds like Garner wants to keep Bushholz as a starter and put Nieve in the pen. Maybe Sampson or Borkowski goes to Round Rock.

Tough loss today and KC took 2 out of 3. Former Astros looked good this weekend.

Nice rally, but not enough. Stros left a lot of runners on today going 2-for 11 with RISP. I'm sure Qualls wish he had that 3-2 pitch back..left it high for that 3 HR.

Chris Burke has really been playing soild the last couple of weeks. Stros get a day off tomorrow before the Twins come to town.

Can't believe the series. The worst team in baseball took 2 from us

Let one get away last night. 6-5 loss in the 10th.

Oswalt was looking good then gave up 3 runs in the 7th. Lidge's wild pitch gave the Twins the lead in the 9th. Preston Wilson came through big time and hit a 2 strike 2 out solo shot over the right field corner. Trever Miller's first pitch gave up a game-winning HR in the 10th. Berkman had a 3-run homer in the third that put the Astros up 4-1. That was the Twins 8th straight win.

Wandy Rodriguez, LHP (8-4, 4.59) takes on Carlos Silva, RHP (3-8, 7.07) tonight.

No surprise here, but Fernando Nieve (2-3 4.71) is being sent to the bullpen. Taylor Buchholz (4-6, 5.82) will keep starting. Chris Sampson or Dave Borkowski will be taken off the roster and sent to Round Rock when Clemens returns Thursday to start against the Twins.

Nice rally for the 5-3 win.

Lane had the game-winning RBI single in the 8th. Everett, who is really hitting the ball well as of late, added 2 RBIs. Berkman hit his 200th career HR in the 1st. Missed a chance in the 7th w/ Everett on 3rd and only 1 out and couldn't get him home. Wheeler picks up the win and Lidge his 19th save. Lidge looked a lot better last night throwing 3Ks than he did the previous night.

All systems go for the Rocket!

Man, I swear I've heard that before...in very recent years.

Please, everyone, give up on them! That's what gives them the drive down the stretch. ;)

WOW - Rookie Luke Scott hit for the cycle last night, the 1st Astro rookie ever! :clapping

Unfortunately, the Astros still lost to the Diamondbacks in extras!

That's gotta hurt for Clemens. Trade him?

Not to be rude, but this is the activity for the fourth largest US city's team?

Trade Clemens? I don't think that's even an option.

What "activity" do you refer to? I'm totally confused...

Not to be rude, but this is the activity for the fourth largest US city's team?Maybe there's bigger and better things to do in Houston than sit around on a computer waiting for people to chime in about the local baseball team trading away their top pitcher

It sad that they end up having a tied game and end up blowing it in extra innings. I've started getting very stressed during those situations.

3.5 back of the Cards, 77-78 overall with a much better chance to win the division than the WC.

That's all I'm gonna say. :D

its just ridiculous that this team isnt out of it yet, no matter how hard they seemed to try earlier this season. I hate the Astros, yet somehow i found myself cheering for them tonight.. I really want Brad to succeed, and its really bothersome that he doesnt. I want the Astros to get the playoffs so Lidge can strike out Pujols in the bottom of the 9th in game 7.

Take down those Cards. Its not over til its over.

2.5 back of the Cards now for the division, following yesterday's great win vs. the Phillies.

If we win 5 of the next 7, I think we're a lock. The Cards must do there own "contribution" to our cause, obviously, but I don't think it's that much of a long shot.

Keep it up, 'Stros!!!

7-4 winners against the Pirates...making 7 straight wins.

Crossing my fingers that the Padres hold that lead against the Cardinals. If so, we're a mere 1.5 games back. WOW.

I was afraid the Cards were going to hold their lead last night and make the 7-4 win over the Pirates somewhat fruitless. The way this team responds after a win DOESN'T gain ground will be the real telling point.

3-0; I'd say they responded pretty well... Roy looked sharp

I'm disappointed and all that, but at least they took it to the final day of the season.

Thanks, 2006 Astros. :D
