I'm surprised that this guy is still at the helm. To be fair, he's been given a young team, and has shown improvement. But is this guy the kind of guy that will lead the Rox to a pennant, or even to the postseason?
I can't think of many managers that take years and years and years of slow, painful growth to get a team into the postseason. Cox, Torre, Johnson, all did it quick, within 3 years. (Torre got the Atlanta Braves into the postseason his first year there.) I doubt Hurdle will ever be anything but a .500 manager. At best. Am I wrong?

I don't know, I like him. He's shown a willingness to mix it up and try different formulas to win. The Front office really helped him out by getting Jamey Carroll to play 2B with Gonzalez struggling and putting together a solid bullpen.
I like his aggresiveness. I saw a game a couple of days ago where they started an inning off with a perfectly executed hit-and-run when no one was looking for it.
I think given the players the Rockies have, Hurdle has done a good job of using all of them to best help the team; rotating Choo/Spilborghs/Sullivan in the outfield, Mixing up Closser/Torealba, etc.

I never have bashed Hurdle to much, it is definitely time for change tho. I'm beginning to believe that Hurdle has a picture of the Monfort Brothers with a goat or something. If we had just hit the .500 level in the last 3 years I would be satisfied. Also tired of hearing the same old things in the paper all the time.

Rox dont spend money !!!!
Look where they have been on the payroll list.
I said over at the Hurdle poll that it would be better for HIM to leave as well as the Rox get a new mgr, so that when the newbie coach cant win also, they will finally wake up and write some checks.
And Hurdle will be off to a fresh start somewhere else. Hopefully somewhere warm !!!
But not Tampa, talk about owners being el cheapo. They have no strategy or desire for championships. They are all : "bottom line". Its the old Hugh Culverhouse mentality.
Hurdle WILL win , somewhere !

Hurdle is like most managers. He can win with good horses and lose with bad ones. If you can't develop them then you can try and buy them.

Problem with that is, when you do develop them, they get good and the cheapo owners wont keep them. Braves, Yankees and the like do, but the the rox ,devil rays and the like do not.
That breed of ownership is more concerned with the books.
Marlins won two WS with marginal payrolls, then cleaned house.
WH is a genius !!!
