Have you ever looked at it this way? maybe you guys have discussed this, but EVERY TEAM wins 50 and LOSES 50, so basically it's a 62 game season.... which is spread over 6 months..... what fun is that....
Every team wins 50 and Loses 50.....hmm.... something needs to change

actually, what i have maintained is:
"you're gonna win 60 and lose 60... what are ya gonna do with the other 42?"
and, i find the 6-month regular season very exciting.

That's not always the case, the Mariners went 116-46 in 2001. I also find the 6-month season exciting.

I think at this point of the season the KC Royals would be very happy with 50 wins.
Don't forget the 43-119, 2003 Detroit Tigers? If the Tigers win tomorrow and lose the rest of the games they play, they will have tied that record and it is only June 13, thats kind of wrong, not 69 Mets wrong, but wrong nonetheless.
BTW- the win 50 and lose 50 is an old Sparky Anderson yarn.

The way I look at the season is, if you:
Win half the games against the 5 best teams
6 out of 10 against the middle 20 teams
and 7 out of 10 against the worst five teams.
You basically skate to the division title.

That's creepy. What ever happened to the old having more wins then the other team?
Besides, to update your stats, the best teams dont matter. If you go 10-9 against your closest opponent, 12-7 against the 3rd place team in your division. If the bottom 2 teams give you a 14-5 record or better....You win.
Dumb your way to playoff pitching and a few Umps help (I.E. A.J's run to freedom) the WS here your team comes.

Personally I'd like to see the regular season shortened. 162 games a year and all the travel is just too much stress for the body, mind and soul.
I would not, however, want MLB to adopt an NBA or NHL type schedule and play only 81 games per year -- not feasible economically.
I think MLB should make August its new September. Play an annual 135-game schedule with more built in rest days. Terminate minor league seasons by the end of July and have 1 August as the day rosters can be expanded to include 40 players. The playoffs could begin at the start of September.
Before you shoot this idea down consider some of the positive effects it could cause in the game.
1.) Eliminating this number of games would allow for the return of the four man starting rotation, thus eliminating the 30 worst starters in MLB, no doubt this would increase the quality of starting pitching in the majors.
2.) If fans had less opportunities to attend or watch games then the demand to attend or watch theoretically should increase -- simple supply/demand curve.
3.) Players would be more refreshed and there would be less of a "need" for HGH, steriods and amphetimine usage.
4.) Less game time gives players more time to rest nagging injuries and would reduce the chance of serious injuries happening. This almost certainly would lead to better play on the field.
5.) The MLB playoffs would not overlap with the middle of the NFL season. Insted the MLB playoffs would take place during the less important first few weeks of the NFL season.
6.) No more World Series games in November.

Cramming 135 games into five months, as you proposed by doing away with September, would not have teams rushing back to a 4-man rotation.
I'd like to see a return to the 154 games schedule and at least two real doubleheaders in each stadium. You could lop off about two weeks this way, either having the season start a week later and end a week sooner, or end two weeks sooner so that the World Series was over with around mid-October to reduce some of the cold weather games during the Fall Classic.
Alas, any talk of reducing the number of games is just that, talk. The owners will never, never, never take money out of their pockets.
