I read about that. That's pretty bizarre.

It's not every day you see an 8-1-6-5 triple play, I guess. :clapping

I think he was saying "It's not everyday you see a triple play, period, [much less a 8-1-6-5 triple play]

Strangely enough, it was the White Sox against the Twins.:clapping Search for it on MLB.com, it's pretty easy to find.

Not sure if this is the place, but after seeing that play I was wondering if a base ump can call a player out for leaving early on a fly out, or if the team in the field must appeal, in order to get the out call? BTW, it sure looked to me that Huff left well before the catch, and the 3B coach seemed to sense it. I realize when someone leaves early, he is not automatically out, as he is afforded the opportunity to get back to the base before the ball does, but if he has gone home, and left the field, ie., entered the dugout, does the fielding team need to look to the ump, or can they simply tag the base and get the call from any umpire who saw it?

It figures that only the Royals could have a triple play in which a wild throw to the plate would be involved.

Haha, I was surprised nobody else pointed it out.

Who was the ONLY team to make two triple plays in ONE game?
And when was it?

I'm surprised everyone missed this: it was the first triple play in Tampa Bay's history.

Considering how bad the team has been since it started, that's a heck of a lucky streak that was snapped...

That's an easy one, Uptown Underdog, however the Trivia section would be a better place for this. Welcome aboard!

It was July 17th, 1990 in Boston, the Minnesota Twins turned two triple kills in one game. Twins 3B Gary Gaetti started both, one in the fourth, the other in the eighth inning. Red Sox won, though, 1-0.:lookitup Never been done before or since.

I remember in '03 when Furcal made that un-assisted triple play. I saw it live. That's something I'll never forget.

If the player has left the field the other team just needs the throw the ball to the base and tag the base he missed or forgot to tag up and the ump makes the call.....

There was a "routine" triple in my game today. Nothing crazy. A hit and run, and the player lined right at the short stop. He tagged the player running from 2nd to 3rd, and threw to first. 6-6-3. The ump said that was the first triple play he has seen in his 25 years of umpiring.
