I need help. I cannot seem to pitch a fastball fast. There is a difference between my fast ball and a change up. But my fast ball is very slow for my league.

Any help would be great!

Work out (make your arm stronger)

Use your legs more and push of that mound

Play long toss four or five times a week. Practice throwing from Home plate to second base, until this becomes very easy. Then move back to a spot that you can reach but it is not easy. Throw at that distance until it becomes easy and move back. The object is not to throw the ball as hard as you can but more or less long arm the ball, stretching the arm out.

No...this you do not want to do, regardless of the countless coaches who say to do just this. If you were to push towards home, you are getting ahead of yourself. The idea is to stay back, similar to what a hitter does. You should bring the plant leg up-down-out using a hip-shift, keeping the front side closed as long as possible.

These are basics. Be sure you have proper elbow alignment, good balance, and a very strong midsection and legs. Strength in the legs in not needed so as to be able to push off the ruber better, but in a way, just the opposite: to allow you to stay back on those strong legs, and not get out in front too early.

Understand that many of the responses you get here, even from those who claim to be very knowledgeable, will contradict what others say. there are Marshallites, who swear by the teachings of Mike Marshal, a PHd and former Cy Young award winner, others follow the teachings of Dick Mills of pitching.com, and still others think that Tom House seems to have the best take on all of it. One thing I have found is that there won't be much agreement. Do some research, and get in shape. Conditioning, when you get into high school, will separate the men from the boys.

Hope this helps.

Tom

Ok thank you guys. I'm also now wondering on two more things.

1. I'm trying to throw a curve, slider, and fork more effectively and they all seem to cut. What am I doing wrong.

and

2. I'm not exactly in great shape. (5' 9" 240 lbs. 13 Y/O):( but I am very quick. (26/26 steal attempts.) It has also help me hit 27 homeruns in 18 games pn a 390 foot field. What can I do to get in shape and stay fast and hit?

Thank You Very Much,

Chris Figz

I do wanna lose weight but I think the extra weight pushing into the ball helped me hit it as far as I have. (My farthest would have left Dodgers Stadium) So Idk how much wieght to lose. But I actually am thinking about wrestling. Although I am only in 7th grade so It may be a highschool thing.

Any feedback on the pitching too?

usually your HIGH SCHOOL may have a feeder program for wrestling..If you cant find wrestling,,try martial arts or boxing..Maybe the park district has a wrestling program...bottom line is you NEED to get that weight off..At your age and size you need to be alot thinner. Its just not healthy in spite of how you think the extra weight make you hit..POSSIBLY TRY THE ATKINS diet or cut out bread and sugars.if it has sugar dont eat it..cut way down on bread.drink lotsa water.play pick up basketball games..get moving its summertime

hes right in a way, you should push off later in your motion, that way u dont get ahead of yourself, it will feel awkward at first, but it improves velocity, trust me, i went from 85 to 88-91 with ease

the key is that your back leg is almost if not entirely straight upon release of the ball
