He's got to be alot better than he was with the Mets. They don't give those kind of contracts to bums(very often). He's a talented player. I'll bet he turns it around away from New York where he knew he wasn't wanted. Give him a few weeks of regular playing time in AAA and he'll be back.

I remember when he was first coming into the league, he was considered to be the next great player from overseas, and he just didnt produce the way he could have. Perhaps the pressure of playing in NYC will go away and he will start to play well.

I think Kaz will play well with the Rockies.
I know he tried his best and was well liked.
Good Luck Kaz!

He's so overrated, go back to Japan Kaz and play out your career there.

Harsh words
Good luck Kaz in Denver, & good luck Eli Marrero in NY :gt

I think Kaz will do well for the Rockies. In Colorado he gets a new start with a team that wants him and he is away from the NY media. I have read there is a chance he may play some shortstop if Clint Barmes does not get his act together. I hope Kaz does well where ever he plays!:)

He won gold gloves in Japan...after seeing Kaz's defense, I'm pretty confident that I could win one there too

moebarguy ...Having never seen you play, I am unable to make that decision, however if you are as good as you think you are you should be playing minor league ball some where. After all in your mind you are a gold glover!

Believe me, if my parents blessed me with height, I would have been scouted (my coaches always told me that) - lefty pitcher with a great cutter and a curveball with awesome movement. But with that aside, I was just saying how little merrit those golden gloves in Japan are.

Yes but as long as we are being honest Kaz is not that bad and you know it!:)

I'm actually pretty confident that he is...I've watched him live and on TV for the past 3 years, and besides that first game of the season (HR in each of his first games), he's really one of the worst players in the league.

Well you should be happy he is gone and move on to better things!:waving

Although Luis Gonzalez has struggled at the plate the season (the rockies sent him to AAA after taking him off the 15 day DL this week), I'm not sure why the Rockies feel the need to trade for another second baseman. Jamey Carroll has been playing well, and Gonzalez should get back on track sooner or later - he's hit .292 each year in his two MLB seasons, and he's excellent defensively.
The comment about Barmes makes sense. He's been on and off, and lately he's off, hitting just over .200 in his last 10 games.

This is what I think this trade is all about. Insurance at the shortstop position and to light a fire under Barmes! :)

I have to agree with Moe. Watching him play defense day in and day out - yes, he really is that bad. I have no idea how he won gold gloves, or how the Mets signed this guy based on reputation without really taking a look at him.
He had streaks with the bat that led you believe he could be a serviceable ML hitter, but he is currently in such a bad funk that he looks like he is swinging with two broken arms.
I do wish him luck, the change of scenery certainly won't hurt

Look I am not here to defend Kaz, but with the Mets for the last season was he not at 2B? And in Japan he was a SS. So this may have something to do with it. Having to adjust to a new league, new team (Mets), new country, and put that together with the NY media and we all might have trouble? Playing in a new part of the country might be just the trick. ;)

He was a short stop the first year with the Mets. They moved Reyes to second to put Kaz at SS. He was awful at short stop. He was so bad that the Mets put Reyes back at SS and tried Kaz at 2B.
He didn't play enough games at SS to qualify for the fielding stats, but here are the stats from 2004, when he played SS:
ESPN (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlbhist/stats/fielding?groupId=9&season=2004&seasonType=2&split=82&sortOrder=true&sortColumn=fieldingPct&qualified=1)
He made 23 errors. Even though he only played in 110 games, only four SS in baseball made more errors, and they played in more games.
His fielding percentage was .956. Of the 22 that qualified, only 1 was worse
His range factor was 4.75, actually pretty good. Of the 22 that qualified, 7 were better and 15 were worse
His Zone rating was .810. Of the 22 that qualified, only 2 were worse (and 1 the same)
He is just not a good fielder, at either SS or 2B. The change of scenery may help his hitting, but I can't imagine it will do much about his fielding.

You have sold me. We can only hope things will change, but as of now I agree his fielding needs help!
