I have a question for the Dodger fans. Do the Dodgers have anyone in mind to replace Mr. Scully when he retires?

I've heard the name Don Sutton mentioned many times over the years. I think he does a great job for the Braves and, although no one will ever replace Vin, would be a good choice. :radio

No other announcer could do the entire game himself and do both TV and Radio the same time.

Is there a possibilty Gary Thorne gets hired by McCourt? Another New England connection.

One of my old lab buddies commented:

"There are three things that will never die: Taxes, Rock and roll, and Vin Scully"

Vinny will be with us for a good 10 years more

I think the Dodgers should try and find a young diamond in the rough like the Lakers did with Spiro Dedes. The kid's 26 and sounds like a seasond pro already and should be around for 50 years.

Steiner blows.

Fire Steiner and let someone develop under Vinny for a few years

Mr. Scully can't die or retire. He's too awesome.

I watch Dodger games just to hear him. I think he's the best that ever was.

My favorite was when he was doing Game of the Week and called Jack Morris' no-hitter.

He waited a long time to get the crowd sound and in that magical voice...."And then there were none."

Enjoy him as long as you can.

I remember that NBC broadcast. I also remember Vin on saturday afternoons broadcasting golf on NBC. We are very lucky indeed to hear him as the voice of the Dodgers all these wonderfull seasons with Jerry, Ross and Big D.

When Vin retires, an era will finally end, the era of the great announcers of the fifties. Names like Allen, Barber, Hodges, Gowdy, Harwell, Caray all were around in that decade. So was Scully, who got his start under Red Barber in Brooklyn. Like the others, Vin will be missed. He has been a special announcer.
My favorite call of Scully's has to be Gibson's homer in the 1988 WS. You still hear that call on tv and it was definitely a classic ranking right along with Hodges famous call of Thomson's homer in 1951.

I have never thought of Vin Scully retiring. If and when he does, it will be a sad day for sure.:radio

A couple weeks ago I was driving home from Fla. on a saturday afternoon and listening to the LA broadcast fron Dodger Stadium on XM radio, I tuned in the 4th inning and didn't hear Scully, just Charley Steiner and Rick Monday...does Scully just work tv now? I did hear Steiner mention Scully at the end of the broadcast.

Vin works all 9 innings (solo) of every home game and road game west of Denver on TV. On radio, Vin simulcasts (Radio AND TV) the first 3 innings and then turns it over to Rick and Charlie for innings 4-9 on radio. On road games east of Denver, Vin plays golf while Charlie and Lyons do TV and Rick and Jerry Reuss do radio. If you had tuned in earlier you would've heard Vin.

Vinnie's call of Gibby's HR was on some FSN special about designated hitters and pinch hitters. It still continues to give me chills to this day. Greatest call in the history of sports.

Maybe one or two of those guys will get the nod when Vin locks away his :radio
Hey, Maybe I should throw my hat in the ring, if the Dodgers were prepared to relocate me. I would have to brush up a little in the intricacies of the game and the history. :crazy

Vin has no peer as a baseball commentator working alone, but I prefer to work alongside someone. I get bored with my own voice, so I am sure the spectators do as well. And working alongside someone allows you to throw back to and work off each other.

I remember Vin in Brooklyn.

Even as a kid, he was superb!

There is (or was) a little league field in his honor in Teaneck, NJ I think - from his days here.

Bring back the BROOKLYN Dodgers!

(Just a dream, as Jimmy Clanton once sang)
