Any one else impressed with this kid. I think he is the real deal. Nice movement on hispitches good velocity and control oh yeah hes under 25. Other than verlander and papbloom he has been the best young pitcher this year.

I saw Liriano while he was in Rochester last year, and I don't think I've ever seen a more dominant pitcher. Unless he gets a major injury, I smell a Cy Young in the future.

If Liriano played for the Giants, I'm sure the Giants Organization would have found a way to screw him up. Don't even begin to take credit for Liriano. The Twins organization has one of the BEST pitching development systems in the Majors. There's plenty more where that came from too. We've got pitching prospects galore in the minors. There's just no room for them right now. In due time.

While Terry Ryan has made some moves in the past I'm not too happy about (signing Joe Mays and Torii Hunter to megacontracts, Rondell White and Tony Batista this year...), the AJ Pierzynski for Joe Nathan/Boof Bonser/Francisco Liriano has surpassed his Bobby Kielty for Shannon Stewart trade in terms of greatness.

The White and Batista signings were only to back some of the youth with some veteran experience. The mistake they made wasn't signing them. It was letting them play as much as they have. They needed to play Kubel and Bartlet more, and earlier in the year.

Joe Mays might not have been a bad deal, had he not gotten hurt, and had surgery. I think Mays is part of that lower percentage of people who don't recover from Tommy John surgery very well.

I disagree with your opinion about the Hunter contract. Granted, we would all like to see better number from Torii, but he is the focal point of this club. He gets crowds into games, his name sells merchantise, and he helps fill the seats. That's the investment you make with a player. If you get anything less, you haven't made a good decision.

His fielding and character are almost worth the money. Plus, you know he's going to hit .260 and 25 HR, with some SB every year. There are players doing a LOT less in this league, making more money, doing MUCH less for their clubs and fans then Torii is.

If Torii is traded to a team like New York, think about how fast he will simply fade away.

Actually, I think the Giants will definitely take credit for the find. They signed him as an OF and turned him into a pitcher. He just had a few injuries at the end of his time with Da Jints that made people question if he would ever be healthy again.

And for the last 10 years, the Giants haven't screwed up the young pitchers they've had. Matt Cain is doing well, as is Noah Lowry, Brad Hennessey and Kevin Correia. And there are lots of young relievers just about ready to make an impact. The players that don't pan out are typically the ones that get traded. Remember Kurt Ainsworth? Maybe Jason Grilli or Nate Bump? How about Ryan Hannaman? The first three were first round picks and the last one a fourth-rounder. All of them had success with Giants minor league teams and then practically fell off the face of the earth (or became lowly relievers) pretty soon after being traded. I really don't know where you got the idea that the Giants don't develop the pitchers well.

Hey don't be so hard on an Eckerd College alum, Brian Sabean.

Also, does everyone else think it is ludircrous that Liriano is not on the AL All Star roster. What was Ozzie thinking not selecting Francisco? He is now 10-1 with an AL leading 1.83 ERA. Whoever said they see a Cy Young in the future for Liriano, assuming he stay healthy, is exactly right and it could be in 2006.

Give me a break! The Giants scouted him and signed him and turned him into a pitcher. But Sabean didn't know what he had in Liriano. He was injured at the time of the trade. I give credit tot he twins for knowing how good Liriano was. But it's all good. I have Lirano on both my fantasy teams.

Liriano could win the Cy Young Award this season the way he is going.
