The Boston Red Sox. And no not just because there my favorite team but because I think the Red Sox are the strongest team in the division. Alot better team than we had last year.

I was gonna vote for Tampa but I decided to vote for Boston...they look good...and the Yankees I think will eventually fall out of contention.

I voted for the underdogs. I am taking the D' Rays as my favorite AL team

Yanks again, so they can exit again in the first round, and make Steinbrenner hurl.

I picked the Red Sox to win, but not because they actually have the hitting, pitching, or managerial strengths to win the division, but because half the Yankees opening day roster will probably be in wheelchairs by the end of the season, based on how things are going for them so far.

As for the other three teams, the Rays and O's are irrelevant this year, and the Jays are eventually going to fall out of contention. They can beat the Red Sox, but not many other teams.

I think it def. going to be between Jays+Sox. I just feel they are the most solid right now in there division.

Red Sox. I think that the yankees will stumble round about mid july and boston will take it. Hopefully

If Burnett comes back healthy in July, and their offence maintains its pace, the Jays will win this hands down.

They can beat the Red Sox, but not many other teams.

They have won almost every series they have had. They have been swept once and they have trouble sweeping. I don't know where you get that they can't beat many other teams. Talk to the Angels, White Sox, etc.

The Orioles! (My heart say yes...my mind says Yankees (blech!))

Yes I am a little biased. But the following things do come to mind.
1. The Yanks are going to get healthier.
2. The young Yankees are producing right now.
3. Overall, the Yankee staff appears better.
4. Moose and Unit are pitching like they are known to be able to.
5. Steinbrenner will get what he needs.
6. The last four games between the Yanks and Sox.

Somehow, someway the Yanks will win their division again. Whether it will end with number 27 is yet to be seen.

Being a Sox fan, I am picking the Sox. But one thing I have learned over the last few years, is don't count that team from the Bronx out. Much to my chagrin. :grouchy

With the way the Blue Jays are playing right now, how can you count them out? They are doing alright, and if they had had A.J Burnett all along, and Josh Towers had won at least a couple of his games, they would be leading right now. All they need is to get Burnett back, and to get decent outings from their 5th starter (with Chacin, Lilly, Halladay and Burnett being the other four).

I think Red Sox will win, injuries will b too much 4 Yanks but never write them off.

The Jays? Good, but overpaid.
The Yanks? Ditto.
The O's? NO WAY!
The D-Rays? Who?
The Sox? Why not?

The Yanks in a cakewalk. If they are leading the pack with all their injuries they will just pull away over time.

It's going to be too close to call.

Toronto will win the AL East because of their hard-hitting battle-tough instinct. (1st)

Injuries (Sheffield, Rivera, Jeter, this, that) and complete cockiness are going to kill New York. (4th)

Red Sox are going to learn that Rookies sometimes blow games. (2nd)

O's may make a charge for the wild card probably, we'll see (3rd)

Devil Rays - Try again next year. (5th)

Why will the O's make a push for the wild card. They are in 4th right now even with Corey Patterson playing out of his mind

I hate New York but if they're ahead and blowing out the Red Sox while they still have very key players out, then I see no reason why they shouldn't win this divison. The Blue Jays I think will stay in the hunt however will not be a close threat, I really would like to see them win for a change but I doubt it. Next year I think we'll really see a dead close three team race but for now I think it's still Yanks vs. Sox

If you think NY's replacement players are going to keep this pace, I've got some swampland---er, prime real estate--to sell ya!

In all seriousness, who knows? I'll go with the Sox because I'm under contract.

With Matsui and Sheffield both now gone for certain for most of the season, the Yankees will be seriously lacking in production from the outfield (combining the fact that the replacements will not be able to keep up the pace, and Johnny Damon's season). I do not see them staying atop the division for much longer. I am anxious to see how well A.J Burnett will do once he comes back. If he is at least above average, the Blue Jays could jump into first place (booting one of the two rookies from the rotation). It should be a great year to follow the AL East.

Yeah, but the Red Sox and Blue Jays aren't allowed to win the AL East. I'll say the Yanks win it until proven otherwise. :p

I still say we're doing much better than any other team that's injured. Melky Cabrera and Andy Phillips are doing just fine. Once Kevin Thompson gets around to hitting .275 or better, we'll be OK for now. If we can keep pace from here onward, I say it's a 2-horse race: the Yanks and Toronto! :D

I've been noticing it all year long - and I think last night's game highlights it perfectly - that the Blue Jays bullpen, other than B.J. Ryan, just can't get it done. Even in the games that they've won, it's been ugly at times. I went to a Sox v. Jays game in April, and Ted Lilly pitched the first 7 innings, giving up just 1 run. Then, as soon as he was gone, the Sox jumped on the bullpen for 5 runs in the last two innings, before Ryan had to come in to preserve what had been, just an inning before, an 8-1 lead.

While the Red Sox bullpen will improve when Timlin and/or Foulke get healthy again (although Foulke is a big if), I'm just not seeing Toronto's bullpen getting any better, unless they pull off a trade for a decent setup man or two.

Gotta loyal here, the Yankees will take the division for the 9th straight time. :gt

Toronto could win it thought, I really like their team and being the only team I can watch everynight (Yankees coverage in my part of the World suck badly) I wouldn't mind seeing them in the post-season... as a Wild Card!

Too biased and have too much hatred towards the BoSox to comment but they'll be in contention for the rest of the year for sure. If Ortiz and Ramirez got injured ala Mastui/Sheffield, they're done thought :clapping

The way I see it is like this: Half the Yankee team has been hurt, yet Boston has yet to achieve any separation in the standings. What's going to happen when NY gets healthy?

You're looking at replacement players overperforming, though, clearly. When Cabrera ends this season with Sheffield-like numbers, I'll take that back. Also, keep in mind that Boston was without Crisp for a month and a half. Also, Boston's just better, so blah.;)

Listen...I'm the first one to admit that Boston isn't too comfortable with winning the division! :D Aside from winning it last season (*ahem*), it's been a while.
Philips and Cabrera are doing great down there now, I agree. It's shame that the whole team's gonna tank in a week or so. :p ;)

The past couple of division games played (Yanks, Blue Jays). Our starting pitching is finally coming online, were waiting for a new starting pitcher to come back from surgery (Hayden Penn) our bullpen has been strong. R. Lopez has won the last three games now that he has a personal catcher. Our offense is finally heating up....

I'm not saying this is our year, but I don't think it's time to count us out yet. :gt

First of all, the Yankess might not "get healthy" for a while, with Sheff and Matsui gone pretty much for the season. Second of all, the Blue Jays bullpen is fine when they are rested. However, Jays starters have been leaving games too early (4th and 5th inning) and manager John Gibson has been pulling the plug a little early as well. When the bullpen is on good rest, they are fantastic. So There!!

Eventhough I hope the Yankees will win, I'll pick Boston.

Just because the Yankees are a bunch of old men (in general). The pitching staff is shaky too.

Lets have Tampa Bay, Detriot, Kansas City and Oakland

The Red Sox injuries are fixable, except for Wells, and that's okay. Kevin Thompson? Andy Phillips? Elementary school is out for the year, is it? I'll grant you Melky, the HR robber. And raise you a Papelbon. He has twin brothers, one of whom the Sox drafted.

Both bullpens are not good. But the Sox have Varitek. If Varitek stays healthy, and Clements gets over being line drived all over (the guy must have targets on him).

Not allowed? Not allowed?

as much as i would love to see my jays to win the division, ill try to be unbias and pick the red sox. i think injuries will hurt the yanks and boston looks really strong. however, if toronto can stay consistent or new york can bounce back with all these injuries, it will be a good race. something tells me that this division isnt going to be decided until the last week.

I think the Devil Rays have a shot. They have some young talent, have already played a lot of games against the toughest teams - BOS, CWS, CLE, etc.

Boston annually collapses, New York's team isn't even very good and the Orioles are terrible. The only team who might challenge the D-Rays are the Blue Jays but that's a long shot.

Tampa's a shoe in for the World Series. It's a shame their fans haven't realized that yet.
