Do you prefer the tradition and intimacy of Tigers Stadium, or have you been wooed by the beautiful & flashy new Comerica Park?

I went to game there from 1971 until 1999 and had no problems with the posts.you had to have the posts to have the great upper deck view of the game.all you have to do is move you head a little. no problems with the posts.

Am I the only one that can imagine that Pologrounds is the reincarnation of some dude from ninty plus years ago that whined about Navin field being turned into Briggs stadium....."That antiseptic upperdeck is an atrocity to all that was the great Navin field, I am never following the team again."

I hope it is not just me that could picture that?

Tiger Stadium is where I learned the game and fell in love with baseball. To me, it will always be tops and I will always overlook any imperfections. I go to Comerica and follow the Tigers but I can't compare the two - to me, its not even close.

I agree. It's neat to see my kids fall in love with CoPa, just like I did with Tiger Stadium. They know the history of the old ball park, but they really love going to the new one. Perhaps someday they'll be sad to see old Comerica Park get it's lights shut off for the last time, making way for a new riverfront stadium with a retractable roof and warp capabilities on all bathrooms and hotdog stands.

Tiger Stadium was "Baseball". In the same way Comiskey was, Wrigley, Fenway, and the house that Ruth built. I have been to Tiger stadium several times. It was one of those parks where you could "feel" the history when you walked into it.

I got there for batting practice so the crowd was still quite thin, but when I walked through the corridor towards the field area, I could see the blue of left field and as I got closer. the grass came into view. The two looked amazing together. I could feel the history.

It looked so intimate. I never got that feeling at Fenway and I was so distracted by the fans at Yankee stadium, I never even looked around till I took my seat.

I just about fell outta my computer chair, laughing my self silly..jeez,
i can picture olde Donald's bones plopped behind home plate...no bones
about it..shake, rattle, and roll, indeed...heh heh heh..

Myself, I love the olde gal...had many a happy time there..even when the
team wasn't that great...but face it, her time came and went...i don't
miss the posts, the grungy toilets, with the urinal trolls, the small and
not so nice food stands...and more...if the club had invested in her future,
and made those changes as suggested by the TS fanclub..perhaps, the
corner would still be around today, thrilling fans both old and new...

but she is gone..not coming back..COPA is the future..and you know what,
the new gal ain't that bad...i love the view of the skyline..and more..

I just wish copa was more homer friendly, like the corner...but hey, the
tigers need to fashion the club to fit copa...and they are getting better
in that regard..and all in all, for a new park, it's one of the better ones
around...and I know donald will be flaming me..but change, at times, is
a pain pill to swallow.....

hmmm, maybe they oughta have a toilet bowl night at copa...free toilet
supplies with every paid admission....

Even the Red Sox, are strongly considering replacing aging FENWAY..

in the next few seasons...Fenway, is in worse shape that the corner
ever was..from what i've been told by Sox fans, and what I've read...

Then again, maybe they will do a total retro fit....but I suspect
she too will go the way of all flesh....

C'mon people...let's not get carried away and blinded by how Tiger stadium
compares to COPA...Sure, it was a great place to see games..MOST of the
seats were outta sight..except the restricted posts...and yeah, the ball
flew outta there like a bat outta hades....but it needed work..aisles were
too narrow....paint peeling everywhere....too small and grungy bathrooms,
food stands were too small and lacking....corktown area wasn't so hot...

the players hated the small bullpens....small dugouts...small clubhouses...
and more.....but yeah, if certain issues were addresssed..and many the
corner would still be in service today,,delighting even more fans..

but she's not...and you know what ? COPA ain't that bad.....I could do
without the tiger rides....and continue to tweak the outfield distances,
but it's a nice place to see a game...and we should be proud of it..

I think it's just time to move on..and let people like donald, remember

the corner in their own special way.....

I think those numbers are to be expected, given that there are way more people out there who have been to Tiger Stadium than Comerica Park. Try this poll again in about 10 to 15 years from now, after the city has witness some playoff baseball and better home teams. While Tiger Stadium may still win that poll, it would be much closer.

All the negative aspects of Tiger Stadium expressed thus far are on the money. But one overwhelming positive supersedes them all -- upper deck box seats, especially along the third base line. Great vantage point, foul balls, on top of the action -- baseball heaven!

Comerica, "which means what"? looks pretty cool in pictures. Ive never been there, only the old place. The scoreboard looks awesome! We went thru the same thing with old Comiskey and new Comiskey, "whats US Cellular"?, baseball fans are notorious for wanting to hang onto tradition.

Frankly the older I get the more I want the amenities of a new ballpark.

I think it's still unfair to compare the two. Sure it's fun to do - but CoPa is still too young. Nostalgia is to tough to compete with, and Comerica hasn't had the opportunity to build that. It also hasn't "stood the test of time", which Tiger Stadium did.

I say, ask this question again in 30-50 years.

Honestly, the buildings both had their good points and bad points, but from simply a stadium standpoint - I think CoPa is better. (Leaving out the "feelings" of course). Yes, Tiger Stadium seemed more "intimate", but I'd trade the intamacy to dump the poles.

That's a good point, maybe people haven't had a long enough chance to get "attached" to Comerica Park yet.

(Though I still have to agree with the other posters that the forward seating of the upper deck in Tiger Stadium was awesome.)

I would pick Tiger Stadium. I have a lot of good memories there, took my Father there to see his first Major League Game when I won Tickets in a Golf Outing. What a great Day that was. Took my Son to his first Major League Game there too, and took my wife after we were married in 1973 to her first Major League Game there. What a Day that was, boy did she ever get sunburned that Day. We both still talk about that 33 Years later. Been to Comerica a few Games now, and my Son for Fathers Day this year he took me to the St Louis Game, What a great thing for him to do, it was hotter then hell and we both got burned. So I hope in 33 years we'll be able to laugh about it.

Thanks, Rick (RJB7777777)

Just took in a game on Sunday at Comerica Park, nasty! The sun and heat were tough. One other major issue, the park did not open until 90 minutes before game time. Missed home batting practice.

As for Tiger Stadium, we could only walk around it and wonder about the good ole days. The least they could do would be to open it for tours.

Jumping grasshoppers, This is major news...Only a matter of time
before the supermarket Tabloids come to Detroit, and do a full
blown article on the PRESIDENT of the COPA haters..

As much as I loved the old girl..It's time to move on, and on to the
future..basically, COPA is better...and much cleaner...who wants to
live in the past forever ? Future is now..and the future is COPA,
with the re birth of baseball in Detroit...

True, if they would have made the needed repairs, and upgrades to
Tiger stadium, it would have been sweet..but they didn't and it's all
moot point...Donald, when they interview you, don't forget to mention
all of your BB pals here in the forum..

I never thought I would go against Tiger Stadium. It was the stadium I went to as a kid, and it has a mystique to it. From the outside it was huge, but nothing special. The paint was old, it wasn't clean. You'd go in and it would smell like baseball (peanuts and beer, which I believe if you went there now it would still smell that way) but when you went in it was dark. Then you go from the concession area to the field and there was the most beautiful field you have ever seen (to a 10 year old at least) that was hidden from you at first. Everytime I did it I couldn't get over how the field looked.

Now though I will say Comerica doesn't have the history but it is 10x nicer, and kept up so much better. You walk up and on the outside you know what this place is all about with the giant Tigers and the giant bats. Its more colorful than Tiger Stadium. The openness of the field is perfect, and there is not a bad seat in the house (as opposed to Tiger stadium which had seats where you couldn't see the field). Now that I have seen Comerica filled to capacity and with fans in it I know it will be an awesome place to watch baseball for a long time.

I have been to Tiger stadium several times. It was one of those parks where you could "feel" the history when you walked into it.

Feel the history? I've been there several times and usually smelled the history. It seemed to always have an ubiquitous urine smell eminating from it. Not to mention the lead paint chips that would fall on your head.

Briggs Stadium / Navin Field certainly has history and nostalga, but really it was a shithole (no pun intended). "The Bank" is a ballpark that Detroit can be proud of.

In 75-100 years our childrens children will be ranting and raving about how much tradition is in Comerica Park (or whatever name it has by then), just as our pappy's grandpappies probably lamented the additions and modernzations that happened to Navin Field and Briggs Stadium (What do you mean they added electricty and running water!):)

I loved Tiger Stadium because I grew up with it. I still haven't been to a game at Comerica so i can only judge it from what I see on TV and the news.

When Comerica was first built, I hated it because I thought it was way too big and they were "selling out" by putting too much into the sideshow department. {Carasouls, Merry-go Rounds ect.} where as Tiger Stadium was small and simple but had tons of character.

Today, I like Comerica a lot better and think it will grow on me even more if the team continues to go to the postseason. I was very proud of the stadium last night when we had our first playoff game in the park and it was loud and rocking.

I was at the game, and it was the bawdiest and loudest I can remember, and I get to about 30 games a year. I had a wonderful time. There were not any games that matched the crowds passion yesterday, but I am off to the game today, so we will see if that still holds true :D :gt

I really think what's missing at COPA is being close to the field. The upper deck seems like miles away from the action.
You could reach out and almost touch the players at Tiger Stadium.
Still there were plenty of places with crummy views too.
Lower deck way back behind home plate you couldn't see the ball when it was hit on a fly to the outfield until it came down because of the press box and upper deck were in the way.
I like the bigger corridors at COPA and not feeling squished when a big crowd is there. However, for watching a baseball game, Tiger Stadium was a more intimate park.
