View Full Version : Izzy doesn't deserve to be with us.

Three blown saves, and he may give Danys Baez a run for his money in blown saves this year. I may be a Cardinal fan, but he's very overrated in my opinion. I know good closers rarely blow saves, but this rock-headed pitcher makes Danys Baez look like Lee Smith or Trevor Hoffman in blown saves. (the two blew saves in pressure situations, Izzy blew it by walking two batters, then gave up a base hit on a fielding error by Rolen). More walks than K's worries me.
And what's up with La Russa not letting a pinch hitter in the 12th or 13th inning when Hancock was at the bat? Another thing, Hancock can't swing the bat worth #$%@. (let alone he didn't swing)
P.S. I was at the game until the end of the 9th, because my father had to go home.

I dont know how you can possibliy say that! Sure izzy walks a few guys...sure he gives up a few hits....but when we need the groundball double play to end the game or the K he will dig deep and get it! If you havent noticed he pretty mutch does this every game since we got him a few years back and ya know what he gets the job done! Hes no mariano or hoffman but if you look at the rest of the league an its closers you will notice izzy as one of the best. It sometimes takes teams years to find a good realible closer and we sould appreciate how well hes done for us in a cardinal uniform. and about last nights game....Rolen should of had that ball..if he makes the play the game is over right there and you could of noched up another save for izzy.
I do agree with you about letting hancock bat. La russa should have brought in marquis

Would Marquis have pitched the rest of the game then? Hancock was the last Cards reliever.

Ugh...he blows ANOTHER save tonight. Trade him! This guy's cutter is everywhere, he should be relieved from the closer roles, as he'll blow EVERY save. You have GOT to be s**tting me. I don't know why everyone likes him here, but he's an AWFUL closer, and I think he deserves getting booed. He's exactly like Armando Benitez when he was with the Mets.

Izzy just doesnt have the fire or self confidence he had.You gotta be able to get 1 inning out of your closer.LOL..Why does Larussa keep going to this guy?

After his wild pitch last night, first base was open. Izzy should have walked Griffey. That would have given the Cards a chance for a double play against Dunn.

No, it wouldn't have. Dunn never hits it on the ground. He either hits a home run, strikes out, or walks. :p

I would still take him in the Dodgers pen. Who else does St. Louis have to close games?

wow I really dont know what to think of him anymore....I still stick by original comment but i dont know how mutch longer we handle inconsistencey.....the cardinals just drafted a closer in chris perz who was probally one of the top closers in the draft....we also have worrel in springfield so the future is bright!

He won in MAY. It's all been downhill from there. He's blown 2 2-run leads already in June. Look at his stats. 23 walks in 23 innings. I don't care if he won that award. We need to try out a new closer.

I'm pissed because Suppan (who's on my fantasy team) was easily in line for the win...that is, before Izzy blew it big time

jason isringhausen is making me very nervous. is he hurt?
izzy's stats so far this season...
25 games
23 IP
21 Ks
23 BBs (YIKES - where did his control go?)
4 home runs allowed (unacceptable)
3.91 ERA
1.74 WHIP (WTF?)
18 saves (T1 NL - very deceptive)
i know people have mentioned putting wainwright in the closer's role. does he have the makeup to be a closer though? do we have any alternatives in the system? maybe we should make a trade...

Tyler Johnson has really good stuff. We should try him as a closer.

stuff is one thing. mental makeup is another. is tyler johnson a fearless psychopath?
