I recently found out that my Dad played for the Nashville Vols in 1946 and 1947.
I would greatly appreciate any help gathering information that might list his name in association with the team. I have checked the online sources listed elsewhere on this website with no luck so far. His name is John Alexander Duplan. He usually goes by John, but also uses Alex or Alec ocassionally. I would gladly buy any of the guides that listed him if anyone out there has the time to check. I think he did some pitching and played right field. If anyone out there remembers playing with him, I would love to hear from you.
Thank you in advance to anyone who can help.

Terri:
There is no listing for your father, John Alexander Duplan, in The Southern Association in Baseball 1885-1961 by Marshall D. Wright (McaFarland & Company, Inc., Jefferson, North Carolina. This book is readily available from bookstores on or Ebay.
Do not be disheartened. It is possible that your father was on the roster but did not play in a game, as the book listed above only gives information for players with statistics.
I have run across a few players that were on the roster early in the season, and actually played in spring training games but were either sent down to a team in a lower classification or were traded.
I will continue to search for you, and if I run across your father's name in any of my information I will reply. In the meantime, you can learn more about the Nashville Vols and their old ballpark at www.sulphurdell.com
If you have further information such as teams that your father may have played for, it would be easier to pinpoint the Nashville connection.
Regards,
Skip

Thank you for your time and efforts. I really appreciate it. I will try to get more information from my Dad. However, his memory is spotty most of the time. He was having an incrediblely good day when we were talking about the Vols. In fact I had a bit of trouble because he had said Memphis Vols. He did, however, remember the severe uphill slope at Sulphur Dell. The greatest love of my Dad's life has been baseball and he was in such great spirits just talking about his old playing days that I decided to see what I could find. Again, thank you!
