this is a team who has struggled big time in the pitching department but looking at the standings are only a few games out of 1st place. with a big weekend series starting tonight vs the yanks a must win series is here and needs to be taken seriously. the orioles big stuggles have been in the pitching department, mostly the starting rotation with starters not being able to get through the dreeded 6th inning and having trouble getting the 3rd out of a inning. kris benson is the bright spot for the rotation, considering he has been the most productive starter of the group and for what they gave up for him is a big pay off, would love him to go out and beat jaret wright tonight and inprove to 7-4. he is one arm that is showing he is getting better with leo mazzone. rodrigo lopez has shown some pocitive signs with a solid start last week vs the mariners but he is not an i repeat IS NOT the number one guy for this team. I have suffered watching him pitch for the last 4 years and everyone rants and raves about him. he is a veteran presence but is at best a number 3 guy and in a rotation such as the redsox have would be a middle reliever. erik bedard has a era over 5 and is struggling but still at 5-5. he has picked up his tempo during games but he is lacking that killer instinct that we are looking for. he has the stuff, and mazzone called him out questioning the rotations desire but everyone knows it was directed toward bedard. chen is a disgrace and needs to be moved to the pen or let go. he has a era over 6, hasnt one a game and i believe has gone past the 6th just once in his last 10 or so starts. cabrera needs to find the plate or his high speed picthes wont count for anything. he is making a rehab start this week and could be back in the rotation next week. hayden penn who is young and one of the top prospects is in the hospital recovering from surgury but hopefully he will be back soon. adam lowen the 4th overall pick and a kid everyone is so high on makes his first career start on saturday vs the yanks and a struggling randy johnson. hopefully all goes well, he has the stuff but again location is the problem. the bullpens bright spot is closer chris ray is unstoppable and hasnt blown a save chance this year. BJ RYAN who. john halama has been a solid stopper in the pen along with chris britton.

the lineup is doing well but we still need a everday 1st baseman and a big left handed bat in the lineup. oh how nice delgado would look in orange and black. connine, millar are not the answer and clearly bringing in millar for clubhouse moral isnt working. he is causing more trouble then anyon when he opens his mouth and clearly we can see why the sox let him go. I LOVE COREY PATTERSON. this kid can hit and has a great glove and arm in the OF. he is setiling in just fine in the AL and oh when he is one the basepath its like looking at ricky henderson from the late 80's. Nick Markaksis is doing a solid job finally has hois BA over 300 and with no other choices finds himself in the lineup alot. jay gibbons i love your bat but man you are he worst outfielder defensively i have ever seen. you run into walls for no reason, you have no speed and at best a below average arm. he clearly is no 1st baseman with the project last year. he is perfect for the dh spot and shouldnt step on the field unless there is a emergency. tejada, roberts and mora im so happy we have these guys wrapped up through the 08 season and possibly longer if we get roberts under a contract extension. roman hernandez is worth the 4 yrs we are giving him and javy lopez id trade him for a big bag of baseballs for better yet a 1 pack of coors light.

what the orioles need- a 1st baseman, a big left handed bat for the lineup, a rf, and two solid starters for the rotation.

IF ONLY ANGELOS COULD SPEND THE MONEY PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the forum. Glad to see more Orioles fans :)

I agree with a lot of what you said. I'm looking forward to seeing Loewen on Saturday. I'm glad to see Sammy trusted him enough with the start. I think this outting is the "make or break" outting for the kid. If he does well, he'll get another start. If not, I fear it's back to releif work for him. Good luck Adam!

As for Lopez....I think he should go the same way as Chen. They both are failing miserabley. I can't wait for D. Cabrera to come back. I could stand both of them to feel the pressure from a heavey throwing pitcher.

Halama is good in long relief, but I don't want to seem him start. He's to slow.

Conine, Millar etc. all need to go. The old vertran utility players can be replaced with Fehey, Markakis, and Gomez/Newhan when better.

C-Pat is outstanding as long as he keeps his patience at the plate.

We could use a 1B another solid slugger at OF once we get rid of the slugs I mentioned above. However, don't count on king peter for that.

WHOA! Did you say get rid of Millar and Conine?

Conine says he wants to finish his career in Baltimore, this could be his final year. Let him stay.

Millar is only 33 and still has some pop in his bat, why do that?

If we trade Conine, may god have mercy on Peter Angelos...

conine is over the hill and if he stays he does but this is the final year. he takes up space on the bench and personally i dont see where he has had much influence on the clubhouse. he once was a solid player but id much rather see his place on the roster given to someone like ed rodgers or someone else in the minors. bottom line you build with youth. millar has no pop he is a fast ball hitter but he barely gets around on a fast ball from a pitcher.

Ok. I'm not sure if we have the same definition of what a good baseball player is.

Millar makes 2.1 million a year and is batting .231 with 4 HRs. Conine makes 1.7 million a year and is batting .233 with 5 HRs. He's an old utility player that's wasting space. Give the Gomez/Newhan/Fahey utility team a chance. The three of them make a lot less and Fahey and Newhan are both (when not injured or out of the game because of Conine's contract) batting in the mid to high .250/.260s. Gomez is cheaper and has the same bad batting average as Conine.

Millar is showing NOT to be a team jolly clubhouse guy (with all his leaks to the press about the team). I say...let him and Conine go...and let's get a power guy at 1B.

BUT Chelle, we won't be able to get a power guy at 1B without giving something major up. If it's a proven vet, we'd likely give up our top youngsters; vice-versa, if we get a promising young slugger we'd need to trade a Mora, or worse.

Newhan is hurt... Gomez is an older utility vet... and I don't see how Millar and Conine are taking bats away from Fahey. Markakis maybe, but he's been seeing plenty of time and his lights haven't turned on yet.

I wanted to see more of Val Majewski at the start of this season, and the signings of Millar and Conine left him off the team. So the question now is, should we get rid of our aging role-players now or wait until September? At the moment, I'd wait and call up any youngsters we're interested in when the time comes.

This isn't to say I think these were two good signings--I disagreed with them. But at least after living with the decisions, we've gotten two decent bench players (believe me, there are worse out there).

I know. I'm just tired of doing the 1/2 way thing. Either we are totally reorganizing the team. Or...we are going to put money down and make a serious play. But, King Peter seems to do things 1/2 way. He goes with SOME youngsters and puts some money down...but on these older guys.

It's frustrating. I'd like to get some of our young guys up (and am willing to part with some of them to) to get someone at 1B.

I know other fans are frustrated to...maybe it's just that I live with a Yankee fan...and it's just that much more hard to have so many losing seasons when you've got a Yankee fan in your house :)

I'd like to see a new General manager. One who will go out and spend talent and defy Peter Angelos' rule of "Don't go out and spend your money on young inexperienced talent."

Mike Flanagan has to go.. Get a GM with thinking skill. We could've had THEO EPSTEIN, for cripes sake!

------------

No-trade on Millar or Conine. Millar is going to be a solid player, he's going to come around, believe me!

If Tejada is traded before the July 31 deadline.... O's fans will be really sore at Angelos.

Ah, you're right, but that's the rub... if our GM does that, Angelos will fire him. Just ask Pat Gillick, who wanted to trade Bobby Bonilla when his value was high.

Angelos don't know his rear end from a hole in the ground.

O's need some extra pitching and some big bats.

I think we're doing ok for pitching right now. When Penn and Cabrera come back...and with the addition of Loewen I think our pitching will be ok. I'd like to see our bats heat up though (like tonight). It looks like Melvin broke his slump tonight and Millar and Javy are both starting to heat up a bit (go Javy go!). Tejada and Ramon are just solid hitters so I have no complaints with them. And, B-Rob and Patterson have been getting on base and stealing. I'd just like to see more scoring.

I'm...I'm feeling good about the team today....
