I'm wondering, anybody know if that thing (the in park pitch speed detector) is accurate or is a little juiced for the "wow factor" ?

Went to Tuesdays game, and I wondered.

After watching Zumaya go - and yes, yes I know he can throw HARD. But his first warmup was 98, and nearly every fastball was 99-101. Does he really throw that hard ?

Also, I loved watching him leave after each of the 3 innings he pitched in. He has a TON of fire - fist pumping and really fired up. You could tell it was contagious !

I saw Zumaya in KC and he was hitting 98-100.

I've often wondered the same thing myself. I've heard stories of some of them favoring hometown flame throwers, but who knows?

If the radar gun is tampered with, it must be through Fox Sports Net, since I've seen both Verlander and Zumaya consistently top the 100 mph mark on the road. Yesterday's game also featured some pretty fast stuff from Farnsy, right about where he normally tops out at around 97 mph. I'd have to guess that the "gun" is accurate, and that with these kids, they make their own "WOW" factor. No extra hype needed.
