I was reading Buster Olney's blog, and he made a list of teams that could be interested in signing Bonds next season. His frontrunners were Detroit and NYY. However, he said Seattle was in the category of "they might not be interested but they should be." Obviously a ton of considerations would play in (money, availability, fan reaction, etc.), but in general, what do you guys think Seattle fans, players and coaches would think about having Bonds?
Personally, I think it would be a great baseball move, but geographically I almost couldn't be further from Seattle and I don't know how fans think of him there. Anyone with that insight would be helpful.

The only way you'll see Bonds in Seattle is if you go out to the park in June when the Giants come to town. Bonds is too big of an a**hole for Seattle Fans and Management. We like nice guys here. We don't care if they're good ball players or if they can hit and throw, just make'em nice. I just about fell out of my chair when they signed Carl Everett. Don't get me wrong, I love Everett in the lineup, but he doesn't fit into our nice guy style here and Neither will Bonds. I was really suprised when they inked Everett to a deal.

Yeah I was too. Everett didn't really seem like a "Seattle" kind of guy (Wilson, Martinez, Boone, Olerud, the list could go on forever). But by next season we'll likely have a new GM (Bavasi SUCKS) and a new manager (Hargrove " "). If I were an incoming GM with some dough and a need to change the franchise's face and put fans in the seats I might consider signing him. Controversy or not, that first part of the year where he chases Aaron would be a sellout every night. It's not like he wouldn't help in terms of baseball as a DH either. Any thoughts?

Was Bavasi a gm for the Angels, shortly before they won the WS ? I know he wasn't when they won the whole thing in 2001. He could have been part of the building process. I don't know if it's his decisions to make. I think every move has to get past ownership. I don't think he's got the power to do what he thinks is right, along with Hargrove. Now, I'm sure they have some say in the matter. How come no one took a chance with Kenji before the M's ? He's a great Catcher, and his hitting is good. The M's continue to build their team for their Japanese Market. I think it's great, if these Japanese ballplayers are good. It makes you wonder where the M's priorities are.
I remember Sweet Lou was so frustrated that management didn't try to pick up a Right Handed RBI guy and a another lefty for the pen down the stretch, a few years back, when we had a powerhouse. M's ownership didn't want to go over the payroll budget. The M's have made money since they moved into the Safeco and this seems their only priority. What's a little money to pick up a stick and a lefty in late July when you have a powerhouse to reward your fans for paying the second highest ticket prices in the league and continually support your team. Some say that Seattle fans are fare weather and this may be true, but would you pay these high prices to watch 'em stink it up ? I bought two right field seats ( I love watching Ichiro play the outfield) for the Tigers in July and it run me about $50 for the pair. The only time they made a big move or two is when their season ticket numbers were down a couple of years ago. They went out and signed Beltre and Sexton. As we all know, the window sometimes opens only for a short time, to win the World Series. Ask Cub fans.

--I'd trade Everett for Bonds if we only have room for one not so nice guy on the roster. Of course, I'd trade Everett for alot of guys.

At least Everett still has good wheels. Bonds can't even get out of his own way now. he's a joke. They should let him use crutches to play left field. He should retire and let some young gun play. He is playing for himself and not the team. Get the Wheel chair out for Bonds and push him to the old folks home. Stick a fork in him. What a distraction for the Giants. Bonds could go into Body Building. They say they reach their peak in their early 40's......

If you don't have a real shot to win the whole enchilada then Bonds would be a waste of money. The guy will cost a fortune and probably only be available for 100 games at best.

--I'd be happy with .270 and 20 HR from Everett. Thats not great from a DH, but asking for more from Crazy Carl would be setting myself up for certain disappointment. I don't know that I'd say Carl still has good wheels either (actually I know I wouldn't). He is kind of chunky and gimpy and a liability on the bases and in the field (assuming they ever use him in the OF). I suppose he does run better than Bonds though (or our old DH Edgar:p ).

The Yankees? Yeah right! Do you really believe that any team would be interested in a over the hill player? Maybe a owner
like Bill Veeck, but others? I don't think so.
Of course the Yanks are mentioned, but I really don't think this article doesn't make any sense.

I'm kind of surprised by the responses from everyone here. I mean, yeah, Bonds is a liability in the field. But after this season he won't be playing the field unless he signs with SF again. You can bet that he would be playing every day if he was a DH (he did in the series against Oakland). Sure, he can't run, but who says DHs have to? Dare I say, Big Papi...probably the best DH of all time (Edgar is the only one in competition) -- neither can run for $%*# though.
For GMs in the AL Barry Bonds is a gem as long as you don't have to pay him too much. He's going to get his hits, homers, and maybe most importantly -- walks. His OBS is through the roof when he's playing well (it's even pretty good this year) -- you can bet that's going to catch Billy Beane's attention.

Bonds '06 numbers
46 games
125 at bats
27 runs
32 hits
7 hrs
22 rbi's
49 bb
16 strike outs
0 Stolen bases
0 caught stealing
.483 on base precentage (Ichiro @ .393 OBP)
.472 sluggling percentage (Ichiro @ .416 SLG)
.256 average (Ichiro @ .339 BA)
At ($20,000,000) twenty million per year, Barry, with bad wheels and all, could be a player of interest at the trade deadline.
Who would pay this kind of money ? Medically, how long can Barry go on ? Will his legs ever get better ?
Edgar could run in his early days. He often hit second in the order early on, and a couple of times, hit lead off. When he hurt himself in that pre season exhibition game in Vancouver, that slowed him down forever.

Today Bonds made a comment that he would be open to signing with Seattle as a DH if they came calling in the offseason.

Sure Bonds has the title at second in HR---
But he isn't playing in that caliber right now...
