My son had been coached to use more of a linear or hands first approach. Although, he was an excellent contact hitter and even hit a homerun in All Stars, he still lacked consistent power. He was able to go opposite field, but seemed to lack power when he pulled the ball. I did have him use a wood bat for almost all BP which helped his power a little, but I knew there was a flaw in his swing. Thanks to Mark H., and others here, as of last Fall, I started to gradually change my son into a rotational hitter. Yes, there was a period where he wasn't hitting, but there's an old saying, about breaking eggs.... Anyway, he just turned 14 YO, is 5' 8" 124 and his power just exploded with rotational. He can still wait on the ball to go opposite field, but now he can also pull the ball. It's fun to watch the smile on his face as he sends the ball over 300 feet.
