Showing their depth...

"There are so many small-market teams that can't afford to miss a key player in their lineup, but Milwaukee has countered with Bill Hall, Jeff Cirillo and Gabe Gross. Manager Ned Yost has said this is easily his most versatile and depth-filled roster that he has had available.."

This 2006 Brewer "bench" has to be about the best the team had ever had.

And I think Bill Hall is sort of the modern embodiment of Gil McDougald, with a bit of added power! He does a thoroughly competent job at all the infield positions, plays outfield well, and has enough home run power so as never to be ignored by the opposing pitcher.

And with young Hardy sidelined by a bad ankle, it's great to have Hall ready to fill in and do a VERY capable job.

Cirillo and Gross can come off the bench to pinch-hit or to substitute for a regular with almost imperceptible change in the team's starting lineup quality.

Now if we could only get our two starting pitchers back, and get more consistency out of our closer......

Like most teams in baseball I'm affraid our Pitching is the area where our "bench" is the weakest. With Sheets, Ohka, and Helling on the DL I guess any team would be hurting, but if the Brewers want to improve on last year they're going to have to sure up their rotation soon.

We need some good pitchers to fill in for our hurt guys. Speaking of which, has anyone heard any updated new news on Sheets' return? I hear Helling is coming back pretty soon. Anyways, like I was saying, we have a deep bench full of talent....so we need some stronger pitchers and we'll be cruising.
