Maybe I am just whining, but I wanted to get some feedback. Our local Little League Board decided to make what they call a "balanced" tournament bracket for our post-season tournament.

The format is 1 plays 5, 2 plays 6, 3 plays the play-in winner of game 1 (7 vs 10) and 4 plays the play-in winner of game 2 (8 vs 9).

I have done some research on tournament brackets but have not been able to find any information on a weighted vs balanced bracket. Has anybody ever seen anything like this and is their some history of such a bracket that would legitimize their decision?

(the bracket and season ending standings can be seen at www.eteamz.com/fcllbaseball and we are the minor league Giants)

What a lousy set-up. So, in this format you are punishing the top teams because they have to play higher seeds (better teams). Teams 3 and 4 make out like a bandit in this format.

Seed one should play the lowest seed. They should be rewarded for finishing first.

It's probably too late to change the format as the first round play-in games are this evening. We play Saturday morning at 9 against the Dodgers.

I hope we can at least get the format changed for future seasons.

BTW, the President of our Little League coaches the 4th place team which will play the winner of the game between the 9th and 10th place teams. I've never heard of a "balanced" bracket and tried to argue that if they truely wanted to balance the bracket and give teams all teams a chance to advance at least one round, the format should be 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4, 5 vs 6, etc...

Sounds like you're getting screwed. I'll bet you get the ol' "We've always done it this way" excuse too. There's nothing worse than a league corrupt with ego and politics.

BTW, good luck and stick it to them!

You got it right on. The head coach was told "that's the way we've always done it"!!!

I've given up making a case for this year but will argue the point with the board so it doesn't happen in future seasons.

My son is supposed to be the starting pitcher but he stayed home from baseball camp today with a fever and cough. He started feeling better today but hope he is 100 percent at gametime 9am Saturday. He turns 10 that day too!

If anyone can give me some ammunition to fight this issue with the board, I would appreciate it.
