CINCINNATI (AP) - The Cincinnati Reds acquired right-hander Esteban Yan from the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday for a minor league pitcher, a move aimed at shoring up a struggling bullpen.
The Angels also included an undisclosed amount of cash to cover part of Yan's contract. He is making $1.25 million in the final year of his deal.

The 30-year-old Yan has played for Baltimore, Tampa Bay, Texas, St. Louis, Detroit and the Angels. He appeared in 13 games this season and had a 6.85 earned run average. The Angels designated him for assignment on Friday.

Yan went 3-6 with a 3.83 ERA in a career-high 69 relief appearances for the Tigers in 2004. Detroit declined to offer him salary arbitration after that season, opening the way for him to sign a two-year, $2.25 million deal with the Angels.

The Reds won't make a roster move to open a spot for Yan until he joins the team in Chicago.

The Angels received right-hander Kyle Edens, 26, who was 2-1 with a 5.46 ERA in 18 relief appearances for Single-A Sarasota this season.

So, is this a good move or a bad move made by the Reds in your opinion?

That's a bad move by the Reds. Yan hasn't been very good this year.

He is better than Kent Mercker, Brian Shackleford, Rick White, Mike Burns, and Michael Gosling who all pitched in relief for the Reds.

Brian Shackelford has been optioned back to Louisville:

CHICAGO -- The official announcement won't come until Esteban Yan is actually, physically at the ballpark, but the move will be Brian Shackelford optioned back to Louisville. And that's it, as far as we can tell.
