What O's are deserving of a spot in the All-star game?

My picks:
Miguel Tejada
Ramon Hernandez
Jay Gibbons
Chris Ray
Melvin Mora
and
Corey Patterson.

I don't think Jay Gibbons is all-star material. He isn't even really full time starter at RF. Also, much as I love C-Pat, I'm not sure he's beating out J. Damon. Although I'd like to see him as backup (though it won't happen).

Jay Gibbons deserves to be an All-Star, he is quietly putting together a good season.

Tejada's a no doubter, but he won't be a starter (Jeter as always)

Corey "Spiderman" Patterson should be in as a reserve, no question. He's been quietly putting together a good season.

Mora, it could be close

Ramon Hernandez is a no brainer!

Chris Ray will be picked by Ozzie Guillen. Ray is a good pitcher, he may be wild sometimes, but he gets the job done.

Jeter didn't even make the All-Star team last year. Although, I think he will this year...he's having a great year. It will be him and Tejada...as to who will start..it depends (Tejada had a horrific May and Jeter has stayed consistant).

Gibbons is great for the Orioles, but if you look at the American league overall...he's no all star.

Ramon is a tough call. He's total all-star material, but Jorge Pasada and Marteniz are having great seasons as well. I'd have to go with Big George and Ramon (but I'm biased to the O's).

Mora didn't have a season like he did last year, he's batting average isn't as high and he made a couple of big errors already. With A-Rod and Glaus....not sure of him either.

Chirs Ray, I agree with you. Should be a no brainer.

I would love to see C-Pat in there. But, I'm not sure he gets the press to be all star material yet (I fell asleep last night, but I didn't see him on espn after his AMAZING game last night with 2 HRs and a save the game catch...but maybe it was on after). Besides Cub fans/O's fans and real baseball geeks...who knows who he is?

Even though some may be deserving,It's tough getting too many representatives if you're a sub .500 team. I think Tejada,Hernandez and maybe Ray will make it.

Honestly, I think there's a good possibility that Tejada will be our sole rep. Sorry for being a party pooper.

I agree Hernandez and Ray have the best chances to join him.

You may be right JW. WE feel that more are deserving but so does every city with a major league team(except maybe KC) Unless we put on a BIG winning streak between now and then,we won't get much publicity in Baltimore.

Have you seen the all-star ballots lately?

3 Red Sox (Ortiz, Varitek, Ramirez) 4 Yankees (Jeter, Damon, Cano, Rodriguez), 1 Angel (Guerrero).

My god... I think there needs to be a limit on how many all-stars a ML team can bring. I think 2 should be enough.

Tejada is nippin' on Jeter's heels with more than 318,000 votes.

Take the vote away from the fans! Let the players decided who should go. Or even allow the managers to put together a team. Its nothing but a popularity contest anyway. Look at Cal Ripken and Brooks Robinson, there were years those guys didn't deserve to be on the All-Star team, but because of their name recognition they were voted on by the fans. Guess I'm getting grumpy as I get older but some of the All-Star games, skills contests whatever you want to call them is just fodder for tv, with the silly announcers that know mostly nothing about the sport they are covering.

If you didn't appreciate Brooks Robinson or Cal Ripken Jr. as household names for all-star game back then you aren't a true o's fan, Boh.

Yes I agree that the fan vote should be taken away. But lets not make the managers build a team. But what makes you think that National and American League Managers going to pick the correct players? They'll still probably pick all red sox or all yankees at the request of the other managers.

Torre: I believe that the whole yankee team needs to be all-stars... Cause that's what we got.... All-stars

Francona: Instead of yankees, make it red sox.

Just do something like the World War Draft, draw names out of a fish bowl. Everyone is very deserving to be an all-star.

Abolish the fan ballot. Managerial Pick? No Way! Do the Fish bowl and do it the right way!!!

Again, I think there should be a general baseball knowledge IQ test before you are allowed to vote in the all-star game. Some of the guys people are voting on either didn't play for a large part of the season do to injury (David Ortiz is a DH! Not a 1B.....come on, let's be honest Red Sox fans...when was the last time Ortiz played 1B????)...

I will be honest and say Tejada isn't playing as well as Jeter, I voted for Jeter. I'm a baseball fan first. An Orioles fan second.

I wouldn't vote for B-Rob since he missed a large part of the season due to injury. The All-Star game is no longer what it used to be.....it's now just a name recogniztion game.....

I thought it was always a name recognition game. :laugh

...just that the players actually wanted to win it.

Depends on whether you think the All-Star Game is for Stars, or for the best players.

If it's about Stars, well, I'd vote for every Oriole with a shade's chance of getting there. And I do often go homer with my ballot.

If it's about who's had the best season... no, Robinson and Cal had years where they didn't deserve it.

Either way, innocent until proven guilty. You're still an O's fan in my book Boh. ( )

Maybe we need MLB to come out with a definition on the purpose of what the All-Star game is...LOL

Abolish the All-star game altogether.

Or at least don't make it count for anything...just make it another silly exhibition game.
