I don't know if you remember this guy from the budwiser commerical, but Leon, who played a TO-like football player with major issues in the commerical, has tried to become a real life minor league player.True Story here, from SIs 10 spot, more updates to follow:):
4. Leon update: About a month ago the 10 Spot reported that Nigel Thatch, the real-life minor league pitcher who used to portray me-first pro athlete Leon in Budweiser commercials, had been traded for a pallet (60 cases) of Bud. We concluded our item thusly: "Of course, the 'real' Leon would never report if he was traded for 60 cases of beer." As it turns out, neither would the real Nigel. Thatch has refused to attend spring training with his new team, the Fullerton (Calif.) Flyers, unless they increase their contract offer from $700 a month. That would be far too low to get Leon, of "I ain't playin' unless someone is payin'" fame, to cross the street. In fairness, though, it's a pretty skimpy offer to a player that has already brought the team national attention, as lousy (0-3 with a 10.22 ERA last year) as he might be on the mound. Still, the Flyers aren't budging so far and placed Thatch on the suspended list on Wednesday. Maybe Joe Buck can step in to end the impasse.
