Lajoie is correct. A PA court ruled that Lajoie could only play in Pennsylvania for the Phillies. Ban Johnson and the A's circumvented this by trading him to Cleveland and keeping him away when the Indians visited the A's

Ed Delahanty had the same restriction when he jumped the Phillies to Washington. He couln't play in Philadelphia when the team went there.
