Watching a game between the Washington Nationals and the Baltimore Orioles this past Saturday (May 20th) evening, the trivia question came up "How many players have played with both the Washington Senators and the Baltimore Orioles?"

(BTW-The Nationals won 8-3!!!)

The answer was an even 50. For anyone, besides me, who may have an interest in this bit of baseball minutia, here's a listing of players who played with both the Orioles and Washington Senators.

I've broken this list down to reflect both the ORIGINAL Senators and the EXPANSION Senators.

21 players spent time in both a Baltimore Orioles and Washington Senators uniform before the original Senators moved to Minnesota after the 1960 season. They are:

Jim Busby
Bob Chakales
Gil Coan
Sandy Consuegra
Clint Courtney
Mike Fornieles
Billy Gardiner
Lenny Green
Whitey Herzog
Dick Hyde
Don Johnson
Bob Kuzava
Fred Marsh
Sam Mele
Willy Miranda
Ray Moore
Albie Pearson
Eddie Robinson
Johnny Schmitz
Lou Sleater
Dean Stone

29 players wore the uniforms of the Baltimore Orioles and the expansion Senators who campaigned in Washington from 1961-1971, a total of 11 seasons. They are:

Frank Bertania
Sam Bowens
Marv Breeding
George Brunet
Pete Burnside
Ryne Duren
Mike Epstein
Gene Green
Ron Hansen
Woodie Held
Bruce Howard
Bob Johnson
Willie Kirkland
Billy Klaus
Darold Knowles
Hobie Landrith
Elliott Maddox
Mike McCormick
Ron Moeller
Buster Narum
John Orsino
Art Quirk
Pete Richert
Aurelio Rodriguez
Bob Saverine
Barry Shetrone
Willie Tasby
Fred Valentine
Gene Woodling

Before anyone asks, NO player ever played with BOTH versions of the Senators AND the Orioles.

Nine players have played with both the original and expansion Senators. They are:

Rudy Hernandez
Hector Maestri
Don Mincher
Camilio Pascual
Pedro Ramos
Johnny Schaive
Roy Seivers*
Zoilo Versalles
Hal Woodeshick

*Roy Seivers also played with the St. Louis Browns BEFORE they became the Baltimore Orioles.

Finally, if you wish to take this a step further, there have been 133 players who played for the Washington Senators and the St. Louis Browns. You can read more in this thread, titled "Bargain Basement Bartering" in the St. Louis Browns forum, here:

One of my very first posts when I found "Baseball-Fever.com" was an inquiry about how many players had the "distinction" of playing for the Philadelphia Athletics, St. Louis Browns and the Washington Senators. The answer is 14. You can find their names in this thread, titled "Three Time Losers", here:
