I guess most of you have seen Michael Barett's meltdown on saturday. He punched A.J. Pierzinski (or something like that) in the head after he ran him over at the plate.

Of course, it is unfortunate to see something like that happen on a baseball diamond (it is acceptable only in schoolyards and on hockey rinks :crazy ) but I think that the Cubs' management is to blame for what happened.

We saw Barett grow up all thru our farm system. He was a big prospect of the Expos for a very long time. We know what he can do, and what he shouldn't be asked to do. Obviously, the Cubs don't know him so well. There's an old proverb that says "If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen". And it's obvious Michael can't stand the heat of the plate and the contacts, and the physicality of the position. I don't know why they moved him there. They should have left him at third base, where he belongs.

No wonder why they haven't won since the 18th century ;)

Wow, Barrett was actually a calm and sort of disciplined catcher.
I guess he really grew onto the Cubs to hate the Sox and Pierzynski that much!

From what I read around BF, Barret almost got into a scrap earlier in the week. It sounds like frustration is boiling over in CubLand. Expectations have been so high, especially since 2003, and they keep on disappointing their fans.

I had forgotten about him being a 3Bman. Looking at his Stats, I see he played a couple of games at SS, too.

The Cubs front office seems to have alot of braincramps. I don't know how many posts/threads I've read recently on BF, lambasting, Dusty, Hendry and the Ownership. What a mess, but thanks to Wrigley and WGN, they will always have a thriving fan base.

Did he start out with the Vermont Expos in Burlington,Vt.? When I was on my honeymoon in Newport,Vt. years ago, someone told us there was a game that night. We drove 80 miles to the field which was at the University of Vt. and found that the game was the following night. They were off the night we arrived. At least It was a beautiful drive!

What's interesting about this whole affair is that Cub fans are in total denial over it. They insist that 1) Pierzynski is a jerk and caused the whole chain of events or 2) Pierzynski is a jerk who deserved for prior actions.
