Now I know that Frank Howard was called "Hondo" at times, but I always liked it better when he was referred to as either "The Capitol Punisher" or "The Washington Monument".

That has got to be the coolest name and coolest pitcher in baseball, I read he played with headaches and massive migraines and shoulder pain.

That has got to be the coolest name and coolest pitcher in baseball, I read he played with headaches and massive migraines and shoulder pain.
Although Urban Shocker is one of the all time cool real baseball names, I'd also give props to Calvin Coolidge Julius Caesar Tuskahoma McLish... and of course the all time greatest baseball name Van Lingle Mungo.

A couple of nasty ones that were actually used in the newspaper and on radio and TV:
Walt (No-neck) Williams. Williams had a Kirby Puckett-type body... and it was used against him.
Dick (The Monster) Radatz - a big, tall ugly guy. Nobody would call Randy Johnson the Monster now, but it would fit.

One of my favorites is "Boileryard" Clarke. A catcher from 1893-1905 for the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Beaneaters, Washington Senators, and New York Giants. Very solid defensivley.
Another similar one to that was "Brickyard" Kennedy, a pitcher from 1892-1903.

At the risk of being the Grinch party poop, this thread should not be in History Forum. It has zero potential for serious discussion. I'm transferring it to Trivia Forum. It's more a fun thing. Nothing wrong with that.
It's historical trivia.
