wow, sure am enjoying the ongoing rebirth of our beloved Tigers..of course,
I've been a fan since the early 1950's, and have seen all sorts of peaks
and valleys..the past 12 seasons, have really tried my faith, as a fan
of the club..but despite it all, was never ashamed to call myself a
TIGERS fan..I guess true fans, will stick around, thru thick and thin,
but lord have mercy, the past seasons, including that ugly season
of 2003, some real sins were addressed...I wonder what's going thru
Donald's mind...and Alan Trammel's ? Gotta hurt somewhat for Tram,
but stuff like weathering the RANDY SMITH ERA, crappy trades and
drafts, an owner who focused on the RED WINGS, and players who
didn't have a clue how to win..and more..certainly darn near sank
this once proud franchise...Still, it's early, but heck, sure is fun to
see the club weasel off with victory after victory, when in years
pass...those clubs would find ways to snatch defeat--from the jaws
of victory..I still worry about the tribe, if they ever get untracked,
they could make this a three horse race...great to see the media
take a positive notice of OUR TIGERS!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!:laugh

I agree with all of that. And I'm sure Cleveland will get back on track sooner rather than later, they have the talent to be in this race. Let's hope they don't, though.

How about this? (DREAMLAND) Joel Zumaya for Travis Hafner? We could throw in a few other minor league names to geet this done. Would you do it? I would.

If not that, what do you folks feel about the D Train rumors?? Willis for Zumaya (and a few minor guys)? That on I am not so quick to do....it's tough though. I would like to see Willis put up a few good outings in a row. If his recent problems are mechanical? Who the heck is going to fix that messed up delivery? Let's hope there just "gripping" problems you know being perfect to win a game sort of problems.

The Tigers are looking great. I hope they play well all year and show everyone how tough the AL Central really is.:clapping

The current Tigers ERA is unreal. It's 3.34 as of Saturday, and lower after today's shutout. That puts it more than 2 standard deviations away from the mean ERA of the American League. (4.70 League average, SD = 0.65)

This is unreal... kind of like being better than 95th percentile on SAT's...

They make me want to (literally) laugh out loud. It's absurd and exhilarating and absolutely unforeseen. The further we get into the season, the better we play. I read the on-line Free Press and News, but for anybody living in the greater Detroit area, how big is the street buzz on this team?

I live in Windsor, and hockey season is still on, as far as the locals are concerned. Basketball comes next. If you go to a sports bar here you need to ask to turn one of the 20-inch TV's on to find a Tigers game - they have the gray-market dishes that can get just about anything from cricket to South American soccer. We are officially in the Blue Jays marketing area (funny, since I'm about 4 miles from Comerica as the crow flies), so we get Jays games and Mariners games (for the Vancouver market) on home satellite.

The early exit of the Red Wings probably has helped the Tigers get some attention... I thought the Pistons were toast when they went down 3-2, but they're still alive. I expect the Tigers buzz will get going once the kids are out of school and can go to the night games with their parents, and once the Pistons are done, one way or the other.

Here's to hoping the buzz picks up before too long. The last time I was home, I couldn't find any Tigers gear anywhere. No hats, nothing. I had to go to one of those mall stores that carry Tiger hats by default, just because they're a major league team. Maybe next Chinese New Year when I'm home I'll be able to pick up some stuff without ordering on-line.

MR 527,

Would you still trade Joey Zoom for Travis Hafner? Does "Dreamland" still exist?

From the "timestamp" of the post you can see I pointed out the Tigers DH need some time ago.

With the events of the past week (i.e. the trade for Sheffield), I do not think that deal would need to be done. If the Sheffield thing did not happen though, I would scratch my head long and hard over that one. Zumaya and Granderson for Hafner and Sizemore???? But it is all moot now, the Tigers are not going to pick up another DH.
