Nope. Nettles left in '83 and they retired it for Maris the following season.
#3 Allie Clark
#42 Mo still wears it.
#8 Berra

That is correct, Nettles wore it his entire Yankee career 1973-1983 and they only retired Maris' # in 1984 after he left. I always wondered if they would've let him still wear it if they had retired it sooner? Nettles was an integral part of those 70's championship teams and was eventually the Yankee captain after Munson's death. I don't know if Nettles would've offered to give it up either if the Yanks approached him about retiring Maris' #?
I do know that when he came back as a 1st base coach in the early 90's they wouldn't let him wear #9. He had to wear #2. Always thought he looked funny without the 9.

I think George Selkirk was the last to wear Babe's number. I might be wrong.
8 was retired for two people name them.

Only 3 guys wore #3 after the Babe. Selkirk wore it in the late 30's and early 40's. Allie Clark and Clif Mapes also wore the number. lLark only played 1 year with the Yanks 1947, Mapes played 48-51 so I would have to say it was Cliff Mapes.
#8 was for Bill Dickey and Yogi Berra.

Come to think of it I think it was Mapes.
I was at the stadium when they retired #8, also 16 and 37(different years)

I had to go check on this, and according to baseball-almanac 5 guys wore #3 after Ruth--Selkirk, Clark, Bud Metheny, Ron Weatherly, and Cliff Mapes.
He also wore #7 at one point apparently.

Yes, after they retired 3, he wore 7-before some other guy.

Good catch on Metheny and Wetherly. I was looking on a Yankees ite that's usually pretty reliable with this stuff.

You are missing Eddie Bockman in 1946 and Frank Colman in 1947,

Always thought he looked funny without the 9.I remember when the Yankees got Reggie Jackson in 1977. Nettles wouldn't give up #9 (which Reggie wore in Oakland and Baltimore) so Reggie went with #20 in spring training and eventually switched to #44 which he's more famous for.
