Now that Boof's in the majors, I figured it more appropriate to post news and stats about him here.

Boof will make his MLB debut as the starting pitcher on Sunday, May 21st.

I heard that he was bought up this morning on a sports radio update. The guy said, " Yes,That really IS his name!" Glad your man made it! :gt

I hope Boof helps you guys out. I may be a Cleveland fan, but I find no conflict of interest having my favorite player on a division rival. I only hope he can aid your rather anemic rotation (if you'll notice, Cleveland's isn't much better). And if Boof should ever start against the Tribe...I'm rooting for the Twins. ;)

Boof turned in a fine quality start for his major league debut, even scoring the first run, but Minnesota's bullpen blew the 3-1 he gave them after six innings.

When I heard Boof made the debut, I knew a thread was soon to follow. BTW, why are you interested in him?

In 2002, I opened a pack of 2002 Topps baseball, pulled his RC, laughed my head off, then tracked his career from then till now and I'm still going. ;)

No. I hate that phrase. ;)

Boof will make his second start on Saturday against the Seattle Mariners.

Boof over Baker, wonder what's going to happen when Silva remembers how to throw a sinker. . . .

Twins start another rookie vs. Mariners
Seattle (22-28) at Minnesota (21-26), 6:10 p.m. CT

Pitching has always been at the core of the Twins' success.

So when Minnesota struggled on the mound at the start of the year, it came as quite a surprise to many. It took some major changes to the rotation to help turn things around for the starting staff, but it appears that they have done just that.

Francisco Liriano demonstrated once again on Friday night the kind of quality performance that can be achieved by a rookie in the rotation.

The Twins will look to another rookie, Boof Bonser, to help continue the success on Saturday. Making just his second career start, Bonser will have to show similar command.

Bonser, however, will also need some help from his offense against Mariners left-hander Jaime Moyer. Facing another southpaw won't be anything new for the Twins.

Saturday's game will mark the eighth time in its last nine games that Minnesota has faced a left-hander.

"You don't see that too many times where you're constantly running up against a lot of them," manager Ron Gardenhire said this week.

But the mostly right-handed Twins lineup has hit .261 against lefties this season -- the sixth best mark in the American League.

MIN: RHP Boof Bonser (0-0, 1.50 ERA)
The Twins liked what they saw from the rookie pitcher in his Major League debut to give him Saturday's start over fellow first-year starter Scott Baker. Bonser delivered a quality start against a tough, young Brewers lineup, allowing just one run on five hits over his six innings. His eight strikeouts set a Twins record for a pitcher in his debut, as well. Baffling hitters enough with his circle changeup and a fastball that touched 94 mph, Bonser now must show the Twins that he can provide consistent outings. If he can do that, look for Bonser to become a regular in the rotation.

:laugh who names their kid Boof? Well he changed it himself as I read in his bio. He changed from John to Boof, Legally. LOL.

But I'm not naggin' on the kid, he did pretty good to get his first ML win. Not a bad performance

Why'd he change his name to Boof? When did Cleveland trade him to Minny?

He changed his name to Boof because no-one knew his real name was John. Everyone called and calls him Boof. It's not a nick-name.

And Cleveland never had him. He was drafted by the Giants, traded to the Twins in the Pierzynski deal, and made the majors with the Twins.

My favorite player is on my favorite team's division rival. I know it's odd. But it's fun. :dance

Boof will make his third career start tomorrow against the Oakland A's. He'll look to solidify his spot in the rotation after a shaky start previously, despite earning his first major league win.

You gotta love the way Boof has pitched so far. He has been pretty good overall. I thought Thursday's outing was best of his career. If he can reduce giving up home runs, he will be even better. He has a chance to be very good. Just having Francisco and Boof in the rotation has energized this team IMO.

The problem with Boof is that reducing home runs is what he's been trying to do since 2003...and it hasn't happened. He only makes four or five "mistake" pitches in each game - and they get belted out of the park.

Here's a Boof fansite I found: http://www.boofbonser.net

The kid with the cool first name is, so to speak, making a name for himself. Since taking Kyle Lohse's spot in the rotation, Bonser has delivered about all the Twins could ask him to do. In his last start, he went seven innings and allowed four runs on five hits. In two road starts, the rookie right-hander has shown that not much intimidates him, and he will get another chance on the road to display that fortitude against the Mariners. Bonser has already faced the M's once in his first three starts and picked up his first career victory.

Will the young Bonser be intimidated tonight playing on the road at the Safe against the Mariners and the cagey veteran Jamie Moyer?
