Kurt Birkins appears to be doing pretty good. I know it's still early, but is this kid the second coming of Chris Ray?
Well, Burkins had never been mentioned among elite prospects, so you'd think this is merely a nice start. 5.2 IP is just not enough time to gage anyone.
But the way pitching traslates to the majors has escaped the best in the business when evaluating talent, so, who knows.

At this moment,he's the only one(besides Ray) that doesn't make me take a deep breath when he releases the pitch homeward. He looks pretty good!

I wish Sammy would leave him in more. It's almost like he's trying to make him a lefty specialist. He was a starter in the minors and to not use him long relief annoys me. When Hayden had the appendix issue I thought we could have gone with Birkins as a hold over (not bring up Loewen yet) but Sammy brought up Loewen (another starter) who is now also sitting in the pen.
If we are going to have our new young talent sitting in the bull pen not getting a lot of work while Chen and Lopez (yeah he did well the other night) bring us night terrors of games I'm going to have to be commited by the end of the season.
