I am sorry if this has already been discussed --- I did some research on Baseballreference and came up with the following -- please provide input:
Starting Pitchers: 7 = Leever, Morris, Kremer, Friend, Cooper, Candelaria, and Blyleven (going with career stats) or Vernon Law ----- Not too many great pitchers with the Pirates
Relievers : 4 = Gossage (career) , Giusti, Face, Tekulve

OF starters:Kiner, Bonds , Clemente (playing center? could he have done well there?)
OF backups: Paul Waner, Parker
IF starters: Traynor, Wagner, Maz, Stargell
IF Backups: Arky Vaughn, Groat, and Madlock

C: Kendall and Sanguillen

Please suggest improvements (doing an OOTP baseball fantasy league...)

THANKS

LF- Ralph Kiner
LF- Fred Clarke

My roster is made up Pirates who spent more time with the Buccos than any other franchise (hence, no Bonds, and certainly no Goose or Bly.) Your roster looks fine besides the few players who spent very little time with the Buccos.

I don't see how you can leave off Babe Adams, the greatest Pirates pitcher ever. Adams, Cooper, Leever, Phillippe, Morris, Face, Giusti, Tekulve, Candelaria, Kremer

OF starters:Kiner, Bonds , Clemente (playing center? could he have done well there?)
OF backups: Paul Waner, Parker

Clemente, P. Waner, Carey, Kiner, Clarke, Bonds

IF starters: Traynor, Wagner, Maz, Stargell
IF Backups: Arky Vaughn, Groat, and Madlock

Third base is a toughie - Leach, Bonilla, Thomas, Hebner, Madlock, Traynor...throw them in a bag and take two.

I'm inclined to have Jake Beckley as a backup at 1B so Stargell can play the outfield on occasion

C: Kendall and Sanguillen

Fred Carroll and Kendall

Bay will crack the list at the time of retirement, if he stays with the bucs.

HOFers Chesbro and Willis both pitched for the Bucs.
I would not put Clemente in CF, you need his arm in right. He had the most amazing arm I ever saw. Somewhere at the bottom of the ocean is one of the greatest players ever. A great human being too. He was the greatest player I ever saw IMO and Ive seen some great ones.

KINER, CLEMENTE, BONDS --- Correct me if I'm wrong but the only way to get all of these 3 on the field is to have Clemente play CF -------- How else would you get them on the field together?

Center Field: Omar Moreno or Bill Virdon.

Gary Gaetti for MVP

How can you leave out Kevin Young at First?
How about Pat Mears at Short?
And of course, Adrian Brown in the outfield.

It might be worth noting that the greatest catcher and the greatest pitcher ever to play in Pittsburgh were never allowed to suit up for the Pirates.

Certainly Josh Gibson was the greatest backstop ever to play professional baseball in Pittsburgh, and Satchel Page was likely the greatest hurler ever to ply his trade here.

Too bad that the Pirates of the 1930s didn't stand up to the racism of commisioner Kennesaw Mountain Landis and bring these great ballplayers into the fold.
