Firing the GM Baird looks like the first step. Glass has said a repeatedly that Bell is not in danger of losing his job.

Baird should certainly be the first to go no matter what could happen later.

The hiring of Buddy Bell may well go down as the signature piece of all the dumb things Baird has done. We bring up one of our prize farmhands, Justin Huber, and does Buddy play the guy at all?? Not a chance, as thet would be "unfair to Dougie". Dougie who doesn't hit as well as an average SS is taking all the AB's away from one of your prize prospects. Only in Royal Land.

Hopefully the new GM will show Buddy the gate at the end of the year.

He was given a free pass last year, he could blame stuff on the "prior guy". This year he has no excuse for their horrible play.

The guy stinks as a manager, he has only one winning season in parts of seven seasons. This year the Royals are on pace to finish worse than any other team the guy has managed.

Fire him, fire him fast. Bring in someone who can at least get the team into respectability if not winning...

The Royals honestly have so many probems it would be hard for a new GM to know where to start. Just how far into the organization would you have to go to find good people. Scouting, talent development, coaches, trainers, etc.

I'm far from a expert on the Royals organization, but just from what I see a new GM, even a new manager would be just the tip of the iceberg. Given those 2 replacements it would take years for conditions to improve even in the best situation.

Whoever the new GM is, I already feel sorry for them.

Nats will give you Frank Robinson and Jim Bowden for Buddy Bell and a GM to be named later if you want. Frank is a good manager until he falls asleep and Bowden actually realizes the point of a 1B is to hit a lot of HRs and RBIs not to provide lights out defense like Baird thinks.

The Royals honestly have so many probems it would be hard for a new GM to know where to start. Just how far into the organization would you have to go to find good people. Scouting, talent development, coaches, trainers, etc.

Considering all the prospects that have been ruined in the last 5+ years I am in favor of firing everyone and giving the new GM a clean slate.

I certainly am not opposed to that idea, it might turn out to be the wisest choice out there.

I'd give the new guy a four year contract with an option for a fifth and or sixth year, that should give him enough time to stock the A, AA, and AAA level with quality prospects and another year or two to see them break into the big league.

KC won't contend for that long anyway, might as well use that time wisely.

I agree the Baird will most likely be the first one to get the axe this year, but I see no reason why they should hang on to Bell. This guy was a terrible hire to begin with, and even if he had a decent team, I think he would find ways to lose.

The current state of the team is not Bell's problem, and he carries himself in that way also. Bell is more or less just some fat guy we pay to dress up in a uniform a'la Tom Hanks in "A League of thier Own" style. The only problem is that Tom Hanks was supposed to have been this great ball player that everyone remembered, Bell is an overrated Hall of Fame canidate that has no business pretending to be able to manage.

I also agree that we are not going to be in the playoffs for a long time. Might as well completely clean house and start building a franchise. Even if we do start from scratch though, I have a feeling that the Boys in Wal-Mart blue will be just as crappy. Glass may really want to put out a winning team, but everyone wants to win. Glass does not have the resovle to put together a winning team. He will cheap skate his way around for the next decade, leaving the Royals in a terrible condition.

There is one ray of sunshine in this whole deal though, we can't get any worse. We are 5 years away from producing a winning team. That means grooming players in the Minors and aquiring the free agents to win. The Royals are at absolute zero right now, the only thing that determines when we will make a run at the playoffs is when we decide to start putting the resources towards building a great franchise.

3) You know if you don't know anything about something you might want to remain silent. Point 3 is simply without validity. Glass has spent money on players, but it has been the wrong players. Possibly fans of the franchise that spent mega-bucks on Bonilla, Vaughn, et al, might understand this. Being a fan of a team in major metropolitan area doesn't confer some moral superiority upon you.

KC did not pass a referendum for a new stadium. The voters of Jackson County (this includes KCMO, but less than half of the metro area) agreed to fund a renovation of the existing stadium.

4) Baird actually has a clue or two. Didn't he recently swindle a certain team out of quality C (now 1B) prospect for a bag of balls?? He just can't get the big things right. I will tell you he knows more and did more than the illustrious Steve Phillips.

5) Sadly Bell's contract is at least through 2007. The man is not lazy or uncaring. He is simply incompetent.
