Sharman was never announced into the game thus he is not credited with any baseball games played.

Yount on the other hand was announced and warming up when he hurt his arm and had to be taken out without throwing a pitch.

Didn't Tommie Aaron have 13 career home runs?

That sounds right. I didn't understand that the question meant for a career. I thought maybe it happened in a particular game. I think Tommie Aaron's career high in a season was 8.(I'd have to look that up)

How about a guy who is announced into a game, has a ball hit his way, dives, breaks his wrist and yet somehow doesn't get credit for playing in that game!

Talk about freaky stats......and it breaks a long consecutive game streak to boot!

Granted he's gonna miss 3 months but how can he not get credit for playing in that game? Suppose he caught the ball.....he would get credit for a putout in a game he technically never played in? Stupid Rule. I know the rule book says it's not a game but come on that's a little ridiculous. :lookitup

Stupid Rule. I know the rule book says it's not a game but come on that's a little ridiculous. :lookitupHe does get credit for playing in the game, it's just that the consecutive game streak is not continued because he didn't meet the consecutive playing streak requirements. The actual rule is:

10.24(c) CONSECUTIVE PLAYING STREAK. A consecutive game playing streak shall be extended if the player plays one half inning on defense, or if he completes a time at bat by reaching base or being put out. A pinch running appearance only shall not extend the streak. If a player is ejected from a game by an umpire before he can comply with the requirements of this rule, his streak shall continue.

The rule that gives him credit for a game played is:

10.21 When a player listed in the starting lineup for the visiting club is substituted for before he plays defensively, he shall not receive credit in the defensive statistics (fielding), unless he actually plays that position during a game. All such players, however, shall be credited with one game played (in "batting statistics") as long as they are announced into the game or listed on the official lineup card.

So he should've gotten up and argued with the ump that he caught the ball and got ejected! How stupid is that! :crazy

Is it really important that he get credit for that one game considering being out for 3 months will obviously end that streak anyway?

Is it really important that he get credit for that one game considering being out for 3 months will obviously end that streak anyway?I think he's trying to prove how stupid the rule is. Since he got hurt and had to come out of the game it doesn't count toward the streak but according to the rule, if he would have argued with the umpire right after getting hurt and got thrown out then the game would have counted toward the streak.

Yes, that was obviously my point. I know he's out for 3 months, I just think that the rule is very flawed. Technically He could be put in the starting lineup every day for 3 months, get into an argument before the 1st pitch, get ejected, and keep his streak alive! That's ridiculous. But if you interpret the rule exactly the way it's written it's true.
