Palmeiro and Sosa have not announced their retirements, but unless May 1 rolls around with some news, it sounds like their careers as players are over. Can't say exactly how I feel about these two, but it is rather sad to see them go out with a whimper instead of a bang.
Has anyone heard anything since January about Ugueth Urbina and the status of his criminal charges? Last I heard, over three months ago, was he was ordered held in Venezuelan prison until his attempted murder trial, and no date had been set. At that time, his mom complained that of the four people charged in the incident, only her son was being held, ostensibly because of his wealth. She also said a ranking member of the judiciary had promised her Ugueth's release in return for monetary compensation (read extortion.) Ozzie Guillen visited him in early January, but the only thing I read was a blurb where Ozzie said he'd rather be dead than spend a night in Venezuelan jail.
Are there any other MLB players of note that have slipped under the rader, or not playing this year for some reasons other than injury?
