Matt Cain throws 7 innings, giving up 5 hits, 3 runs and 3K's. A fine outing against a future Hall of Famer. He's on his way....:clapping

I read or heard somewhere that this was the first time Cain would ever face the Mets. I guess it showed, as Matt had a nice perfecto going for the first five innings. Too bad someone hit a single in the sixth. Good to see another W for the Giants, though.

Cain (1-2) out dueled potential Hall of Famer Tom Glavine, creating a buzz in the ballpark with five perfect innings to start the game. He mowed through the Mets' lineup without surrendering a baserunner, throwing 58 pitches, 40 of them strikes.
"I kept it together,'' Cain said. "Before I was getting behind in the count, but the difference tonight was I was getting strike one a lot. Mike (Matheny) and I are both going to build on this. We established the strike zone early."

Also intriguing from the game was Lance Neikro in the 3 slot going 2-4 with an RBI. I bet Felipe gives him more chances to hit in that spot.

Great to see Cain performing as he can. His best outing so far this season, and a win to show for it! :clapping It's a shame Kaz Matsui is the guy to break up his perfect game.
Also, gotta love Alou after Bonds.

I wonder how Joe Nathan, Jerome Williams, Kurt Ainsworth, and Jesse Foppert did in their rookie years? :o
Remember whne Nathan was supposed be the greatest Giants' pitcher since Juan Marichal? :o
