I have been asked to find something out. My father believes that he heard many years ago, that the actual playtime (not counting time outs, etc) of a full 9 inning game has been clocked at under 10 minutes. Is this possible?

Not 100% sure, but I believe these are right.
The ML record for shortest game was 51 minutes in 1919. It happened Sep. 28th when the Giants beat the Phils 6-1.
The AL record was set in '26 on Sep 26th when the Brown and Yankees played a game in 55 minutes. That same, they recorded the shortest double header played at 2 hours and seven minutes.
If you figure the average play, whether it's a fly ball or ground ball, takes maybe 6 or 7 seconds from the time the pitcher begins his windup, until the runner is thrown out, or the fly ball is caught, who knows. I've never heard this before, pretty interesting really.
