I believe the sports world needs to hear about what I recently
witnessed this past weekend.

I attended the Cardinals/Cubs game this past Saturday afternoon
(4.22.06) at the new Busch Stadium. I was standing on the sidewalk
after the game waiting for some friends, and three Cubs fans were
getting in a cab. I watched them try to pick a fight with any Cardinal
fans they saw. They yelled over to me and my buddies and proceeded to
tell us how big of a dump our new stadium is...(not crossing the line
so far). So one of my buddies sarcastically asked them how Derrek Lee
was doing… (not nice to pick on a guy with a broken wrist, but still
not crossing the line). Their reply to that was for them to
sarcastically chant "Da-rryl Kile…Da-rryl Kile" as they sped away in
their cab. Line crossed.

I have never witnessed such a distasteful display of fan heckling in
my 21 years of attending baseball games all over the country. Is this
how low Cubs fans are willing to go? Does punching below the belt help
them feel better about 97 years of losing? If that is the mentality
Cubs fans possess, then I don't think they deserve to win a World
Series EVER AGAIN. I don't even think the Red Sox/Yankees fan rivalry
would ever stoop that low to heckle opposing fans.

I am all for friendly smack talking between fans, but when you
sarcastically chant the name of one of our fallen heroes, who
tragically passed away before a game in Chicago less than 4 years ago
at the young age of 33, who was at the peak of his career, who left
behind a wife and three children, you have gone to far…WAY TO FAR. Way
to go Cubs fans. Way to show absolutely no class at all. I am
completely disgusted.

Sincerely,
An extremely pissed off Cardinals Fan

And for your first post on this forum you had to post the same thing in four different rooms??

Hey, tell David Glass to quit being a miser and dig a little deeper in his pocketbook next year. I drove by Kauffman yesterday and saw an empty stadium during the game. Better players = more tickets sold.

Cardinals_fan:

The behavior you described is despicable. That said, however, please
do not be so quick to judge all Cubs fans by the moronic swine that
you and your friends encountered.

These type of idiots befoul all teams in all sports unfortunantly-professional,
college, high school, junior high-you name it.

Nor is this type of behavior anything new. Around 1909 or so, Ty Cobb
is supposed to have referred to Philadelphia as "The City of Brotherly Love, where they have to have 6,000 cops out to keep the fans from killing us!".
This quote may not be exact as it is based on memory, but you get the
drift.

In the future when soreheads from any team start yelling, just remember
that as the voice increases the reasoning decreases!

An extremely pissed off Cardinals Fani understand you're angry, and there isn't anyway to justify what those guys said, but just let it be and take solace in the fact that you're above behavior like that.

also, don't foolishly let this experience cause you to hold cubbie fans in low regard. this shouldn't reflect on them, and instead should reflect on those who cannot control their drinking.

now with that said, let's drop this discussion as it has absolutely nothing to do with baseball. the only thing i see coming from this is an unnecessary argument.

I would have to say chanting the name of a former player who is has past, not in good memory or to show repsect, but in a melisious way is completely uncalled for, but as for cubs fans being the worst in the country/world, I would say they are far from it, sure every team who has fans who are complete, insert bad word, but they cant be used as examples when representing the whole fan base, I know a few cubs fans who are great guys, and living near Philadelphia and being a Phillies fan, I know all to well what horrible things people can say, well its more at eagles games, but you where im coming from.

Ah yes... Cards v Cubs..... I have been to about 40 Cards Cubs games, with 6 of them at Wrigley.

99.9% of every fan I have encountered has been pretty cordial.

We used to be able to take solace in the fact that every time a Cub fan said "Cub fan... BUD Man" he was actually putting money into the Cardinals (Anheuser-Busch's) coffers, but not anymore.

Perhaps a few lighthearted strolls down memory lane will help you feel better....

I saw a Cards fan in a Jersey at Wrigley Field in 05.... it was a Cards Jersey, with the number 03 on it... and the name was BARTMAN. Bold fellow.

My dream as a kid was to catch a Cub Home Run at a Card Cubs game(preferably from Sandberg or Dawson) while at Wrigley field, and throw the freaking thing back on the field!!! The Cards Fans would have gone berzerk. I probably would have been stomped on by the bleacherites.

Just remember than Hundreds of Thousands of Cubs fans still blame Bartman, either fully or at least partially, for losing the pennant for them. Fans of this team (C-U-B-S Completely Useless By September) actually have convinced themselves to ignore the EIGHT Runs the Marlins scored after the Bartman foul ball. EIGHT RUNS!!! We witnessed the very first missed pop foul in the history of baseball that apparently was worth eight runs for the other team. That is not once in a lifetime, that is once is a century!!! How lucky we are to have witnessed it!!!

All and all the Chicagoans are nice folks, it is a world class city, but their baseball knowledge is very shortsided, generally speaking. Not that there aren't excpetions... but you are very likely to hear a Cub fan say that no player on a last place team should win MVP, EVER, but when you remind them that Dawson did just that, they get all "deer in the headlights0." These folks go to their stadium because it is old, classic, and somehow justifies crappy team after crappy team.... It's silly really.

First the Marlins, then the Red Sox, and then the WHITE SOX win the World Series. It'sincredilbe more Cubs fans aren't committing suicide, really.

I love to remind them that their GREAT team of a few years ago... the team that played in the NLCS, was really NOT very good, and made it to the playoffs primarily due to injuries to players on other teams in the division (Isringhausen being one of them)..... What did they win.... 89 games or something? The get all red faced, spew a few ridiculous things, a Holy Cow or two... but the I remind them that the Cubs of the following year, actually won MORE games than the GREAT NLCS team but finished 15 games or so behind a HEALTHY Cardinals team.

Sadly, that NLCS team was the WORST thing that could have happened.... now the Blue Heads think they are actually good!!

1908 - 2007.... An Empty Century..... Party at my house LOL!!!!! :laugh

Yes, after the Bartman incident, the Marlins scored another 8 runs, but don't you see, it was after the Bartman incident that everything fell apart. It was almost as if he caused that chain of events--at least in the minds of many cubs fans that is how it seems. Kind of similar to the black cat incident with Santo in 69
